Thrombosis of umbilical vein varix
Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2002.Clinical management of this anomaly, which in some casesmay be associated with a poor outcome, is not well defined.Fetal monitoring using color flow Doppler has been pro-posed to exclude the presence of complications, includingvein thrombosis. We present a case of thrombosis of the varix of the fetalumbilical vein at 32 weeks’ gestation.

THE umbilical vein has been supposed to undergo thrombosis and fibrosis in the postnatal period. 1,2 Despite this, it has been shown that the adult umbilical vein can be cannulated in a superficial position in the upper abdomen, and through it direct access to the portal venous system can be obtained.

Although a variety of neonatal arteriovenous fistulas have been described, including some between persistent fetal structures,1,2this is the first observation of an umbilical artery-vein fistula. This fistula was probably produced by an indwelling umbilical vein catheter.

Ultrasonic Visualization of an Umbilical Vein
Radiology, 1976A patent umbilical vein was demonstrated via ultrasound in a patient with portal hypertension. Ultrasonographic differential diagnosis of intra- and juxta-hepatic veins is given, with emphasis on real time ultrasonography.

The present study was designed to investigate the roles of maternal-fetal glucose transport and fetal glucose utilization in the regulation of fetal growth. Maternal venous blood, umbilical arterial and venous blood were sampled simultaneously in 60 full-term appropriate-for gestational age (AGA) fetuses and 48 small-for-gestational-age (SGA) fetuses ...

Teratology, 1988
AbstractA case of a ligamentum teres formed from an obliterated right umbilical vein is described. It passed to the right branch of the portal vein. The quadrate and left lobes of the liver were not separated by the usual fissure. Very few cases of anomalous umbilical veins or persistent right umbilical veins have been recorded.

Ultrasonographic diagnosis of ectasia of the umbilical vein
Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, 1987Anomalies of the umbilical cord are associated with high rates of stillbirth, possibly because of fetal hypoxia during pregnancy. In the past, this pathology was usually detected after delivery, thus preventing any therapeutic measures from being taken to save the infant's life.

Persistent right umbilical vein in isomerism
Prenatal Diagnosis, 2019AbstractObjectiveOur objective was to evaluate the incidence of a persistent right umbilical vein in isomerism versus situs solitus.MethodsFor this retrospective, observational, nonrandomized report, we identified fetuses with confirmed right umbilical veins from all patients referred for fetal echocardiography in Southern Nevada between January 2006 ...

Thromboxane production in umbilical vein grafts
Thrombosis Research, 1984Umbilical vein grafts were placed in the carotid arteries of sheep and removed after 10 or 90 days for determination of in vitro production of 6-keto-PGF1 alpha and thromboxane B2 (TxB2) in the anastomoses and in the middle of the grafts. At both intervals the grafts produced much more TxB2 than carotid arteries, but no significant difference in ...
