Glucose gradients of maternal vein-umbilical vein and umbilical vein-umbilical artery in normally grown and growth-retarded fetuses

jpme, 1991
The present study was designed to investigate the roles of maternal-fetal glucose transport and fetal glucose utilization in the regulation of fetal growth. Maternal venous blood, umbilical arterial and venous blood were sampled simultaneously in 60 full-term appropriate-for gestational age (AGA) fetuses and 48 small-for-gestational-age (SGA) fetuses ...

Umbilical vein variations: Review of the literature and a case report of a persistent right umbilical vein

Teratology, 1988
AbstractA case of a ligamentum teres formed from an obliterated right umbilical vein is described. It passed to the right branch of the portal vein. The quadrate and left lobes of the liver were not separated by the usual fissure. Very few cases of anomalous umbilical veins or persistent right umbilical veins have been recorded.

HMGB1 activates nuclear factor-κB signaling by RAGE and increases the production of TNF-α in human umbilical vein endothelial cells.

Immunobiology, 2010
OBJECTIVE High mobility group box chromosomal protein 1 (HMGB1) is a lately discovered candidate molecule identified as an important extracellular mediator in systemic inflammation.

Ultrasonographic diagnosis of ectasia of the umbilical vein

Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, 1987
Anomalies of the umbilical cord are associated with high rates of stillbirth, possibly because of fetal hypoxia during pregnancy. In the past, this pathology was usually detected after delivery, thus preventing any therapeutic measures from being taken to save the infant's life.

Persistent right umbilical vein in isomerism

Prenatal Diagnosis, 2019
AbstractObjectiveOur objective was to evaluate the incidence of a persistent right umbilical vein in isomerism versus situs solitus.MethodsFor this retrospective, observational, nonrandomized report, we identified fetuses with confirmed right umbilical veins from all patients referred for fetal echocardiography in Southern Nevada between January 2006 ...

Recanalized umbilical vein conduit for meso-Rex bypass in extrahepatic portal vein obstruction.

Surgery, 2009
BACKGROUND Meso-Rex bypass is used to treat patients with clinically important extrahepatic portal vein obstruction (EHPVO). Usually, an autologous left internal jugular vein graft is used to bypass the portal blood circulation from the superior ...

Thromboxane production in umbilical vein grafts

Thrombosis Research, 1984
Umbilical vein grafts were placed in the carotid arteries of sheep and removed after 10 or 90 days for determination of in vitro production of 6-keto-PGF1 alpha and thromboxane B2 (TxB2) in the anastomoses and in the middle of the grafts. At both intervals the grafts produced much more TxB2 than carotid arteries, but no significant difference in ...
