Glucose gradients of maternal vein-umbilical vein and umbilical vein-umbilical artery in normally grown and growth-retarded fetuses

jpme, 1991
The present study was designed to investigate the roles of maternal-fetal glucose transport and fetal glucose utilization in the regulation of fetal growth. Maternal venous blood, umbilical arterial and venous blood were sampled simultaneously in 60 full-term appropriate-for gestational age (AGA) fetuses and 48 small-for-gestational-age (SGA) fetuses ...

Umbilical vein variations: Review of the literature and a case report of a persistent right umbilical vein

Teratology, 1988
AbstractA case of a ligamentum teres formed from an obliterated right umbilical vein is described. It passed to the right branch of the portal vein. The quadrate and left lobes of the liver were not separated by the usual fissure. Very few cases of anomalous umbilical veins or persistent right umbilical veins have been recorded.

Ultrasonographic diagnosis of ectasia of the umbilical vein

Journal of Clinical Ultrasound, 1987
Anomalies of the umbilical cord are associated with high rates of stillbirth, possibly because of fetal hypoxia during pregnancy. In the past, this pathology was usually detected after delivery, thus preventing any therapeutic measures from being taken to save the infant's life.

Thromboxane production in umbilical vein grafts

Thrombosis Research, 1984
Umbilical vein grafts were placed in the carotid arteries of sheep and removed after 10 or 90 days for determination of in vitro production of 6-keto-PGF1 alpha and thromboxane B2 (TxB2) in the anastomoses and in the middle of the grafts. At both intervals the grafts produced much more TxB2 than carotid arteries, but no significant difference in ...

A method to inject the umbilical vein of the rat

Reproductive Toxicology, 1990
A technique for injection into the umbilical vein was developed for pharmacokinetic analysis of the fetus, using rats on days 18 and 20 of gestation. The fetus was drawn out of the amniotic sac and incubated in lactated Ringer's solution; this technique showed no influence on the activity of serum enzymes or drug metabolizing enzymes or on the ...

[Thrombosis of the umbilical vein].

Zentralblatt fur Gynakologie, 1986
Among 7,600 pregnancies between 1980 and 1985 five stillbirths were noted caused by umbilical vein thrombosis for an incidence of 1:1,500. Demonstration of a typical case. Umbilical vein thrombosis in gestation has previously been thought to be a fatal condition.
