Ultrasonic Visualization of an Umbilical Vein

Radiology, 1976

Umbilical Vein Angiography

Radiology, 1966
Radiographic visualization of the portal venous system by splenoportography has proved worthwhile in the evaluation of patients with portal hypertension. This technie, however, has serious technical limitations, is hazardous, and is frequently contraindicated in patients to whom it might be of great value.

Umbilical and portal vein calcification following umbilical vein catheterization

Pediatric Radiology, 1989
Calcifications of the umbilical vein and intrahepatic branches of the portal vein developed in a newborn who had an umbilical vein catheter inserted for 11 days postnatally. The calcified intrahepatic portal veins can still be demonstrated sonographically at the age of three years, but these calcifications were no longer detectable radiologically.

A Benign Anomalous Umbilical Vein

Ultrasound Quarterly, 2016
A rare case of an anomalous umbilical vein with a previously unreported outcome is described. Most reported cases of anomalous umbilical veins are associated with significant concurrent fetal anomalies and poor outcomes. Fetal magnetic resonance imaging was used in this case to confirm normal portal and hepatic venous vasculature.

Thrombosis of umbilical vein varix

Ultrasound in Obstetrics & Gynecology, 2002
.Clinical management of this anomaly, which in some casesmay be associated with a poor outcome, is not well defined.Fetal monitoring using color flow Doppler has been pro-posed to exclude the presence of complications, includingvein thrombosis. We present a case of thrombosis of the varix of the fetalumbilical vein at 32 weeks’ gestation.

The Umbilical Vein

Archives of Surgery, 1967
THE umbilical vein has been supposed to undergo thrombosis and fibrosis in the postnatal period. 1,2 Despite this, it has been shown that the adult umbilical vein can be cannulated in a superficial position in the upper abdomen, and through it direct access to the portal venous system can be obtained.

Umbilical Artery-Vein Fistula

Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1970
Although a variety of neonatal arteriovenous fistulas have been described, including some between persistent fetal structures,1,2this is the first observation of an umbilical artery-vein fistula. This fistula was probably produced by an indwelling umbilical vein catheter.
