Flecainide binding dynamics in voltage‐gated sodium channels: A comparative isoform analysis of the state‐dependent block

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 15, Page 4145-4162, August 2026.
Background and Purpose Local anaesthetics and class I anti‐arrhythmic drugs block voltage‐gated Na+ channels, but the molecular basis for the isoform differences in drug sensitivity remains unclear. Understanding these mechanisms is essential for optimizing therapeutic efficacy and safety.

A Timed-Permission Access Control Profile Within MARTE

open access: yesIEEE Access
Android applications often interact through inter-component communication (ICC), which can be exploited for privilege escalation attacks. Traditional permission-based access control (PBAC) mechanisms lack the ability to express temporal constraints ...

Targeting the noncatalytic activity of GSK3β modulates neuronal excitability in medium spiny neurons via Nav1.6 interactions

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 15, Page 4344-4363, August 2026.
Abstract Background and Purpose Kinases phosphorylate ion channels, but their noncatalytic roles via protein–protein interactions (PPI) are less understood. Here, we identified the peptidomimetic ZL141 to characterize the PPI between GSK3β and Nav1.6, revealing a noncatalytic role for GSK3β in regulating Nav1.6 currents and neuronal excitability ...

Identification of drug repurposing candidates for the treatment of polycystic kidney disease

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 16, Page 5082-5101, August 2026.
Background and Purpose Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) is a leading cause of end‐stage renal disease with limited treatment options. Drug repurposing offers a promising strategy to find effective treatments. Experimental Approach We identified birinapant, bardoxolone methyl and salicylic acid as repurposing candidates for ADPKD and

Opposing roles of DGAT‐mediated lipid droplet biogenesis in the regulation of ferroptosis sensitivity

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 15, Page 4508-4532, August 2026.
Ferroptosis is driven by unrestricted peroxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acyl (PUFA) chains in membrane phospholipids. In triple‐negative breast cancer cells, lipid droplets (LDs) sequester dietary PUFAs, limiting their incorporation into membrane phospholipids, preventing mitochondrial damage, and reducing lipid peroxidation and ferroptosis.

A new branch of mammalian vitamin B6 metabolism: AKR1C‐mediated conversion of pyridoxal to pyridoxine and 4‐pyridoxolactone

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, Volume 293, Issue 16, Page 4841-4859, August 2026.
Pyridoxal 5'‐phosphate (PLP), the coenzyme form of vitamin B6, is essential for amino acid metabolism. In mammals, PLP homeostasis relies on salvage enzymes, yet key metabolic branches remain undefined. We identify AKR1C isozymes as previously undescribed contributors that convert pyridoxal into pyridoxine or 4‐pyridoxolactone through reductase and ...

Untangling Mephedrone‐Induced Social Reward in Rats—The Involvement of Oxytocin and Vasopressin V1A Receptors

open access: yesGenes, Brain and Behavior, Volume 25, Issue 4, August 2026.
Social context alters the neurochemical and neuropeptidergic mechanisms of mephedrone reward, revealing a dual regulation by monoamines and oxytocin/vasopressin signaling in brain regions critical for reinforcement. ABSTRACT The rewarding effects of psychostimulants are strongly influenced by social context, yet the underlying neurochemical and ...
