Unbalanced power converter modeling for AC/DC power distribution systems

2021
In power distribution systems, the installation of power electronics based equipment has grown rapidly for ac/dc system coupling, system protection, alternative energy source interface, etc. This thesis will focus on power electronic component and system modeling techniques and three-phase ac/dc power flow analysis for power distribution systems. First,

Polyphase Power Factor and Unbalanced Loads

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1920
DEFINITION No. 1 in the Committee's report gives a numerical relation applicable to any polyphase circuit, which is also intended to give a measure, as a general average, of the greater outlay of apparatus and plant that the supply of unbalanced loads entails.

Balanced-to-Unbalanced In-Phase Power Divider

2017 IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and RF Conference (IMaRC), 2017
This paper proposes an in-phase balanced-to-unbalanced (BTU) power divider (PD). The proposed PD is of Gysel type, so it can be realized for high power applications as well. Design equations for the proposed PD are derived analytically. Four short circuited parallel coupled lines with floating conductor are used to make circuit compact.

Unbalanced Distribution Power Flow with Distributed Generation

2005/2006 PES TD, 2006
Recently the number of distributed generators (DG) being integrated in to the distribution system has increased. The distribution system is no longer a single source system. Thus there has to be a change in strategy for distribution analysis. This would require a fast power flow solution with DG. This paper presents the developed three phase unbalanced

Residual harmonics in voltage unbalanced power systems

Industry Applications Society 40th Annual Petroleum and Chemical Industry Conference, 1994
The analysis of residual harmonics requires combining linear and nonlinear analysis into a computer algorithm. The mathematical techniques are to apply state space methods to solve the nonlinear loads such as converters in a time domain format, analyze the resulting waveform with a Fourier analysis to convert the data to the frequency domain, and then ...

A Power-of-Two-Choices Unbalanced Allocation Process

SIAM Journal on Discrete Mathematics, 2017
Summary: The well-studied ``power of two choices'' family of algorithms creates balanced allocations of \(m\) balls into \(n\) bins by, for each ball, selecting a few bins at random and then placing the item in the least-loaded bin. A natural variation is to create an \textit{un}balanced allocation by, for each ball, selecting a few bins at random and ...

Direct power control of DFIG connected to unbalanced power grid

2013 Eighth International Conference and Exhibition on Ecological Vehicles and Renewable Energies (EVER), 2013
This paper presents a control strategy, which allows doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) to generate a sinusoidal stator currents and minimize an electromagnetic torque oscillations under unbalanced grid conditions. The control does not require a positive and negative sequence decomposition of the control variables, so the independent control of ...

Measurement of Power Factor on Unbalanced Polyphase Circuits

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1920
THE object of this paper is two-fold, first, to give a scientific definition of power factor, and, second, to describe devices for measuring power factor and devices for measuring unbalance of a polyphase system.

Impact of power generation uncertainty on unbalanced power systems

2015 North American Power Symposium (NAPS), 2015
Continued growth in distributed generation introduces significant uncertainty for power generation in distribution systems. We continue the development of set-theoretic methods to confirm whether static state variables, such as bus voltage magnitudes and angles, are within some acceptable performance criterion while subject to the uncertainties ...

Modelling of multimachine transients during unbalanced power system disturbances

Electric Power Systems Research, 1997
Abstract The d,q model has been widely used to study single machine transients but it is difficult to use for multimachines during unbalanced faults when the effect of source impedance is taken into account. In this paper, a hybrid model ( ABC/dq ) of an induction motor has been used in order to analyze multimachines connected to the same bus.
