Resting‐State Brain Entropy Reveals Altered Neural Dynamics and Cognitive Associations in Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: A Longitudinal Study

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience Research, Volume 104, Issue 9, September 2026.
Resting‐state brain entropy mapping in mild TBI revealed dynamic, regional‐specific changes from acute to chronic stages. Early hyperentropy in precuneus, a key hub of DMN, predicted short‐term cognitive gains, while later shifts and entropy reductions aligned with long‐term recovery, highlighting evolving functional changes after injury. ABSTRACT Mild

MSI: A Mahalanobis‐Based Molecular Similarity Index for High‐Dimensional Embeddings

open access: yesMolecular Informatics, Volume 45, Issue 9, September 2026.
MSI pairs continuous Mol2Vec embeddings with a covariance‐aware Mahalanobis metric (dM, θM) to overcome the ranking ties and bit‐density bias of Tanimoto fingerprints. Across five reference compounds, MSI resolves more distinct neighbors than ECFP4 + Tanimoto and its geometry tracks HOMO–LUMO gaps in QM9, despite no electronic training.

First Description of Larval Hirstiosoma novaehollandiae Womersley, 1936 (Prostigmata, Smarididae) With Redescription of Postlarval Instars and Phylogenetic Placement

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Zoology, Volume 53, Issue 3, September 2026.
Hirstiosoma novaehollandiae Womersley, 1936 is redescribed based on three males, deutonymph, and larva, which is described for the first time. These specimens were collected from leaf litter near Thames municipality, Waikato Region, New Zealand. Conspecificity between larval and postlarval stages was confirmed by means of cytochrome oxidase I barcoding.

Quality of refractive error care in Malaysia: An unannounced standardized patient study

open access: yesOptometry and Vision Science, Volume 103, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose Quality of refractive error services is an outcome for effective refractive error coverage for people requiring vision correction. Optical legislation has regulated optometrists and opticians providing refractive care in Malaysia since 1991.

Validation of a portable electrochemical sensor for real‐time soil nitrate monitoring in cotton rhizosphere

open access: yesSoil Science Society of America Journal, Volume 90, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
Abstract Soil nitrate (NO3) exhibits rapid spatial and temporal variability that conventional point‐sampling methods cannot effectively capture, limiting timely nutrient management and plant stress detection. This study aimed to validate a low‐cost, three‐dimensional‐printed electrochemical NO3 sensor for continuous in‐soil monitoring and to evaluate ...
