Undenatured type II collagen and its role in improving osteoarthritis

Ageing Research Reviews, 2023
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease, affecting 32.5 million US adults or 242 million people worldwide. There is no cure for OA. Many animal and clinical trials showed that oral administration of undenatured type II collagen could significantly reduce the incidence of OA or alleviate the symptoms of articular cartilage.

Safety and toxicological evaluation of undenatured type II collagen

Toxicology Mechanisms and Methods, 2010
Previous research has shown that undenatured type II collagen is effective in the treatment of arthritis. The present study evaluated the broad-spectrum safety of UC-II by a variety of toxicological assays including acute oral, acute dermal, primary dermal irritation, and primary eye irritation toxicity.

Undenatured type II collagen in the treatment of osteoarthritis [PDF]

open access: yesOrvosi hetilap, 2021

Water-Soluble Undenatured Type II Collagen Ameliorates Collagen-Induced Arthritis in Mice

Journal of Medicinal Food, 2013
Earlier studies have reported the efficacy of type II collagen (C II) in treating rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, a few studies have investigated the ability of the antigenic collagen to induce oral tolerance, which is defined as active nonresponse to an orally administered antigen.

Effects of different mechanical processes on the structural and powdery properties of insoluble undenatured type II collagen

Food Chemistry, 2023
This study aimed to investigate the effects of dynamic high-pressure homogenization (DHPH), dynamic high-pressure microfluidization (DHPM), and wet media milling (WMM) processes on the particle size, microstructure, triple helix structure, wettability and suspension stability of insoluble undenatured type II collagen (IUC-II).

Oral administration of undenatured native chicken type II collagen (UC-II) diminished deterioration of articular cartilage in a rat model of osteoarthritis (OA)

open access: yesOsteoarthritis and Cartilage, 2017
ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to determine the ability of undenatured native chicken type II collagen (UC-II) to prevent excessive articular cartilage deterioration in a rat model of osteoarthritis (OA).MethodsTwenty male rats were subjected to ...

Points of undenatured type II collagen application in musculoskeletal pain syndromes treatment

Zhurnal nevrologii i psikhiatrii im. S.S. Korsakova, 2022
The dominant collagen of the cartilaginous matrix in adults is type II collagen. The amount of type II collagen in the intercellular matrix of cartilage is significantly reduced against the background of musculoskeletal system diseases. The basis of articular cartilage is hyaline cartilage tissue consisting of chondrocytes with tissue-specific antigens

An Overview of a Novel, Water-Soluble Undenatured Type II Collagen (NEXT-II)

Journal of the American College of Nutrition, 2015
Osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis, is a crippling, chronic debilitating bone disease that commonly affects humans, dogs, and horses. Inflammation and inflammatory responses are key factors for causing swelling, redness, pain, and loss of movement in arthritic animals and humans. We developed a novel, water-soluble, undenatured type II ...

Differences between soluble and insoluble undenatured type II collagen in improving osteoarthritis in rats and their potential mechanisms

Food & Function, 2023
The differences in the improvement effects of SC II, IC II and celecoxib on MIA-induced osteoarthritis model rats were compared, and the results suggest SC II may be superior to IC II in improving osteoarthritis in rats.
