Challenges and Opportunities for Strengthening Bottom‐Tow Fisheries Sustainability

open access: yesFish and Fisheries, Volume 27, Issue 4, Page 987-1005, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Bottom‐tow gear fisheries (trawls and dredges) produce ~24 million mt of harvest annually, representing a globally important animal‐sourced food system. While many are currently sustainably managed, growing concern over the potential for ecosystem impacts from bottom‐tow gears has increased pressure to improve these fisheries.

Bonding of Acrylic Pressure‐Sensitive Adhesives and Silicone Elastomers via Surfactant‐Assisted Plasma Activation for Soft Robotics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, Volume 13, Issue 11, 9 June 2026.
A simple strategy is presented for bonding acrylic PSAs and silicone elastomers by curing surfactant‐doped Ecoflex on oxygen‐plasma‐treated VHB. The interface reaches a maximum strength of 1.6 N/mm (over 20 times that of the control) while retaining material compliance.

Self‐Sustained Oscillations in MoS2 Optomechanical Resonators for VHF Optical Radio

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, Volume 7, Issue 6, June 2026.
This work demonstrates the use of 2D materials drum resonators to generate and modulate radio‐over‐laser signals. Taking advantage of the self‐sustained oscillations arising in cavity optomechanical systems by a continuous wave visible laser, a radio frequency signal is generated and frequency‐modulated by just changing a DC gate voltage.

Temporal and Cell‐Specific Regulation of Synaptic Homeostasis by the Chromatin Remodeler Chd1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 33, 15 June 2026.
Chd1, the Drosophila homologue of mammalian CHD2 ‐ a gene linked to autism, epilepsy, and intellectual disability, is required for synaptic homeostatic plasticity. Chd1 in glia is necessary for the rapid induction of synaptic homeostasis, whereas Chd1 in motoneurons, muscle, and glia is critical for long‐term maintenance.

Modeling the performance of optical modems in the DESERT underwater network simulator

open access: yes, 2018
While in the past decades only low rate acoustic modems were employed for underwater wireless communication, nowadays also high rate optical modems can be used for short range communication, up to a few hundred meters.

The Synergism of β‐Cyclodextrin and Fe3+ Enabled Anti‐Swelling Ion‐Conductive Hydrogels for Multimodal Underwater Sensing Aided by Machine Learning Algorithms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 31, 4 June 2026.
An anti‐swelling ion‐conductive hydrogel is developed via β‐cyclodextrin and Fe3+ synergism, enabling reliable underwater motion sensing and Morse code communication. Integrated with machine learning, the system achieves 98.6% accuracy in real‐time underwater handwriting recognition for rapid information transmission.
