Anisotropic constitutive relationships in energetic materials: PETN and HMX [PDF]
This paper presents results of first-principles density functional calculations of the equation of state (EOS) of PETN-I and beta-HMX. The isotropic EOS for hydrostatic compression has been extended to include uniaxial compressions in the [100], [010 ...

Crack‐Growing Interlayer Design for Deep Crack Propagation and Ultrahigh Sensitivity Strain Sensing
A crack‐growing semi‐cured polyimide interlayer enabling deep cracks for ultrahigh sensitivity in low‐strain regimes is presented. The sensor achieves a gauge factor of 100 000 at 2% strain and detects subtle deformations such as nasal breathing, highlighting potential for minimally obstructive biomedical and micromechanical sensing applications ...

Atomistic simulation of the uniaxial compression of black phosphorene nanotubes
We study through molecular dynamics finite element method with Stillinger-Weber potential the uniaxial compression of (0, 24) armchair and (31, 0) zigzag black phosphorene nanotubes with approximately equal diameters.

Hydrostatic compression on polypropylene foam [PDF]
Models currently used to simulate the impact behaviour of polymeric foam at high strain rates use data from mechanical tests. Uniaxial compression is the most common mechanical test used, but the results from this test alone are insufficient to ...

Grain Boundary Space Charge Engineering of Solid Oxide Electrolytes: Model Thin Film Study
This study demonstrates unprecedented control of grain boundary electrical properties in solid electrolytes. Selective diffusion of cations through grain boundaries in thin films enables 12 orders of magnitude variation in ionic resistance, proving that systematic chemical modification of grain boundary electrical properties is feasible.

Dataset for time-lapse ultrasonic tomography of a granite slab under uniaxial compression test
This data article includes raw data for time-lapse ultrasonic tomography measurements during a uniaxial compression test. Two sets of experimental data are included: first, the ultrasonic tomography (UT) observation (i.e., waveform) data at each 20 MPa ...

Optical birefringence in uniaxially compressed aerogels
The uniaxial strain dependence of refractive index anisotropy has been measured for a series of high-porosity aerogel samples. Uniaxial compression of compliant aerogels introduces an optical activity into the material. We report on the compression-dependent optical birefringence of samples with porosities from 95 to 99% under a uniaxial compression of
