Limit cycles for continuous and discontinuous perturbations of uniform isochronous cubic centers
Agraïments: FEDER-UNAB10-4E-378. The second author is supported by a Ciência sem Fronteiras-CNPq grant number 201002/2012-4. Let p be a uniform isochronous cubic polynomial center. We study the maximum number of small or medium limit cycles that bifurcate from p or from the periodic solutions surrounding p respectively, when they are perturbed, either ...

Summary: In this article, we study the maximum number of limit cycles for two classes of planar polynomial differential systems with uniform isochronous centers. Using the first-order averaging method, we analyze how many limit cycles can bifurcate from the period solutions surrounding the centers of the considered systems when they are perturbed ...

The Uniform Isochronous Centers with Homogeneous Nonlinearities of Degree 6
In this paper we study the topological phase portraits of polynomial differential systems with a uniform isochronous center, whose nonlinear parts are homogeneous polynomials of degree 6. We obtain all the distinct topological phase portraits in the Poincaré disc. For each phase portrait, we give a precise system to realize it.

Periodic oscillators, isochronous centers and resonance [PDF]
An oscillator is called isochronous if all motions have a common period. When the system is forced by a time-dependent perturbation with the same period the dynamics may change and the phenomenon of resonance can appear.

Semiclassical quantization of the hydrogen atom in crossed electric and magnetic fields [PDF]
The S-matrix theory formulation of closed-orbit theory recently proposed by Granger and Greene is extended to atoms in crossed electric and magnetic fields.

Acoustic foundations of the speech-to-song illusion [PDF]
In the “speech-to-song illusion”, certain spoken phrases are heard as highly song-like when isolated from context and repeated. This phenomenon occurs to a greater degree for some stimuli than for others, suggesting that particular cues prompt listeners ...

Melodic Accent as an Emergent Property of Tonal Motion [PDF]
In a previous continuation tapping study (Ammirante, Thompson, & Russo, in press), each tap triggered a discrete tone in a sequence randomly varying in pitch height and contour.

This paper introduces an algorithmic approach to the analysis of bifurcation of limit cycles from the centers of nonlinear continuous differential systems via the averaging method. We develop three algorithms to implement the averaging method.

Situational influences on rhythmicity in speech, music, and their interaction. [PDF]
Brain processes underlying the production and perception of rhythm indicate considerable flexibility in how physical signals are interpreted. This paper explores how that flexibility might play out in rhythmicity in speech and music.

Here, we present a high‐density PEDOT eutectogel electrode array for enhanced body surface gastric mapping. Silver electrodes are blade‐coated onto flexible substrates, followed by electrogelation of PEDOT:PSS and the deposition of a PEDOT:LS eutectogel.
