Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Australian Irrigation Conference and Exibition 2010: One Water Many Futures

open access: yes, 2010
Field trials were conducted at three field sites in the Fassifern Valley to determine the effect of irrigation non-uniformity on carrot production. Catch cans were used to measure the distribution uniformity.

Derivation and characterization of retinal pigment epithelium from urine‐derived iPSCs

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Age‐related macular degeneration causes vision loss via RPE dysfunction and loss. Traditional iPSC therapies rely on invasive biopsies, limiting scalability. Here, we utilize urine‐derived stem cells as an accessible source to generate u‐iPSCs, successfully differentiated into pigmented RPE. This “Urine‐to‐Retina” platform provides a promising path for

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Experimental Study on Ultra-Precision Turning of Freeform Optical Surfaces of Polymethyl Methacrylate with Nanometer Surface Roughness

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The high performance of optical components is contingent upon the quality of their optical surfaces, thereby imposing elevated standards on the methodologies employed for their fabrication.

Do Baseline P-Values Follow a Uniform Distribution in Randomised Trials?

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The theory has been put forward that if a null hypothesis is true, P-values should follow a Uniform distribution. This can be used to check the validity of randomisation. The theory was tested by simulation for two sample t tests for data from a Normal distribution and a Lognormal distribution, for two sample t tests which are not independent, and for ...

Early‐life high‐fat diet exposure increases Achilles tendon stiffness and induces transcriptomic alterations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Early‐life exposure to a high‐fat diet altered intact Achilles tendons in rat offspring, making them thinner, stiffer, and molecularly distinct even without injury. These findings suggest that developmental high‐fat diet exposure may impair tendon quality and increase susceptibility to mechanical overload or tendon injury later in life.

Assessing application uniformity of a variable rate irrigation system in a windy location

open access: yes, 2013
14 Págs., 6 Figs., 5 Tabls.Variable rate irrigation (VRI) systems are commercially available and can easily be retrofitted onto moving sprinkler systems. However, there are few reports on the application performance of such equipment.

Belt Sanding Robot for Large Convex Surfaces Featuring SEA Arms and an Active Re-Tensioner with PI Force Control

open access: yesMachines
This study presents a belt sanding robot for large convex surfaces together with a proportional–integral force control method. Sanding belt tension strongly affects area coverage and spatial normal-force uniformity on large curved surfaces; existing ...
