Identifying gait quality metrics sensitive to changes in lower limb constraint

open access: yesCogent Engineering
Gait quality is of significant interest in studies investigating interventions for individuals with gait pathology. A primary challenge in gait analysis is selecting an appropriate metric which adequately reflects aberrant deviations and provides an ...

Three-Field Modelling of Nonlinear Nonsmooth Boundary Value Problems and Stability of Differential Mixed Variational Inequalities

open access: yesAbstract and Applied Analysis, 2013
The purpose of this paper is twofold. Firstly we consider nonlinear nonsmooth elliptic boundary value problems, and also related parabolic initial boundary value problems that model in a simplified way steady-state unilateral contact with Tresca friction

An Exploration of Tri-Axial Accelerometers in Assessing the Therapeutic Efficacy of Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy in Children with Unilateral Cerebral Palsy

open access: yesSensors, 2023
This study aimed to elucidate the role of tri-axial accelerometers in assessing therapeutic interventions, specifically constraint-induced movement therapy (CIMT), in children with unilateral cerebral palsy (UCP).

Paraborg: Paramedic Cyborg Insects for In Situ Emergency Drug‐Delivery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work introduces Paraborg, a human‐supervised paramedic cyborg‐insect platform that combines controllable locomotion, onboard imaging, and an auto‐injection mechanism for in situ drug‐delivery. By demonstrating reliable navigation, target stabilization, injector launch, and multi‐insect teamwork, the study extends cyborg insects from survivor ...

Updatable Closed‐Form Evaluation of Arbitrarily Complex Multiport Network Connections

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
The inverse design of electrically large wave devices often uses reduced‐order multiport models with discrete optimization, requiring many evaluations of complex interconnections between subsystems that differ only in a few blocks. This paper introduces a closed‐form framework enabling efficient Woodbury low‐rank updates of related, previous ...

An Elastic Frictional Contact Problem with Unilateral Constraint

open access: yesMediterranean Journal of Mathematics, 2018
We consider a mathematical model which describes the equilibrium of an elastic body in contact with two obstacles. We derive its weak formulation which is in a form of an elliptic quasi-variational inequality for the displacement field. Then, under a smallness assumption, we establish the existence of a unique weak solution to the problem.

Keeping Pace or Falling Behind? The Depth of Latin American Trade Agreements

open access: yesApplied Economic Perspectives and Policy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This article examines whether Latin American countries are keeping pace with global trends in trade agreement depth or falling behind. Using 681 agreements (1970–2019), we develop the Depth Index of Trade Agreements (DITA) to weight provisions endogenously through factor analysis based on co‐occurrence patterns.

On Unilateral Constraints, Friction and Plasticity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Three intermingled themes run in all the following : variational statements, the duality in paired linear spaces, the convexity of sets or functions. These are precisely three leading themes of Optimization Theory, as it has been developed for several decades; in fact the study of optimization problems started many progresses of modern convexity theory,
