Stochastic bursting in unidirectionally delay-coupled noisy excitable systems

open access: yes, 2019
We show that \emph{stochastic bursting} is observed in a ring of unidirectional delay-coupled noisy excitable systems, thanks to the combinational action of time-delayed coupling and noise.

LDAcoop: Integrating non‐linear population dynamics into the analysis of clonogenic growth in vitro

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Limiting dilution assays (LDAs) quantify clonogenic growth by seeding serial dilutions of cells and scoring wells for colony formation. The fraction of negative wells is plotted against cells seeded and analyzed using the non‐linear modeling of LDAcoop.

Deep neural network-based automatic metasurface design with a wide frequency range

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Beyond the scope of conventional metasurface, which necessitates plenty of computational resources and time, an inverse design approach using machine learning algorithms promises an effective way for metasurface design.

A general model for analysis of linear and hyperbolic enzyme inhibition mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We developed a general enzyme kinetic model that integrates these six basic inhibition mechanism onto a single one. From this model, we deduced a general enzyme kinetic equation that through modulation of simple parameters, γ (the relative inhibitor affinity for two binding sites) and β (the reactivity of the enzyme–substrate–inhibitor complex), is ...

Crystal structure and optical spectroscopic analyses of (E)-3-(1H-indol-2-yl)-1-(4-nitrophenyl)prop-2-en-1-one hemihydrate

open access: yesActa Crystallographica Section E: Crystallographic Communications, 2018
The asymmetric unit of the title compound, 2C17H12N2O3·H2O comprises two molecules of (E)-3-(1H-indol-2-yl)-1-(4-nitrophenyl)prop-2-en-1-one and a water molecule. The main molecule adopts an s-cis configuration with respect to the C=O and C=C bonds.

SmallTalk: a novel small‐sized fusion tag for peptide expression and purification

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The SmallTalk fusion tag allows for the efficient expression and purification of soluble recombinant proteins or peptides in Escherichia coli. Testing with SmallTalk‐GFP confirmed that the proteins were soluble and folded correctly, while SmallTalk‐Bin1b maintained its antimicrobial activity against various bacterial isolates. This streamlined workflow

Metformin promotes mitochondrial integrity through AMPK‐signaling in Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Metformin mediates mitochondrial quality control in Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) fibroblasts carrying mtDNA mutations. At therapeutic levels, metformin activates AMPK signaling to restore mitochondrial dynamics by promoting fusion and restraining fission, while preserving mitochondrial mass, enhancing autophagy/mitophagy and biogenesis ...

Miniaturized Substrate Integrated Waveguide Diplexer Using Open Complementary Split Ring Resonators [PDF]

open access: yesRadioengineering, 2017
In this paper, two miniaturized planar diplexers based on the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) structure loaded by open complementary split-ring resonators (OCSRRs) are proposed.

KLK7 overexpression promotes an aggressive phenotype and facilitates peritoneal dissemination in colorectal cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...
