Carrier liability for unmanned ships
A person whose business it is to carry goods by sea must do so with a seaworthy ship. ‘Seaworthiness’ is a very extensive concept, not limited to the features of the physical ship herself, but also extending to the qualities of the crew. The obligation is only to provide a crew that is reasonably suited for the intended use or service.

Risk Assessment for an Unmanned Merchant Ship
The MUNIN project is doing a feasibility study on an unmanned bulk carrier on an intercontinental voyage. To develop the technical and operational concepts, MUNIN has used a risk-based design method, based on the Formal Safety Analysis method which is also recommended by the International Mari-time Organization.

Abstract This research evaluates the effectiveness of a hybrid crowdshipping system that integrates occasional drivers with traditional delivery services (OD+TD) to improve the efficiency of freight distribution. By implementing the team orienteering problem with occasional drivers model, we develop a mathematical model and an agile optimization ...

The Political Economy of Industrial Policy in China: The Case of Aircraft Manufacturing [PDF]
Since 1960, only one new country, Brazil, has succeeded in delivering more than one civil jet per month. Otherwise, all the countries now offering world-class planes were established in aviation by the end of World War I.

Abstract The significance of last‐mile logistics in the healthcare supply chain is growing steadily, especially in pharmacies where the growing prevalence of medication delivery to patients' homes is remarkable. This paper proposes a novel mathematical model for the last‐mile logistics of the pharmaceutical supply chain and optimizes a pharmacy's ...

The Amazon River‐Breeze Circulation Limits Detection of Aerosol‐Cloud Interactions in Warm Clouds
Abstract Increased aerosol concentrations can brighten low‐level clouds and extend their lifetimes, but aerosol–cloud interactions (ACI) remain highly uncertain and difficult to quantify. We show that part of this uncertainty is caused by topographical influences on clouds, that is, those arising from land–water contrasts.
