Back Analysis of Rainfall-Induced Landslide in Cimanggung District of Sumedang Regency in West Java Using Deterministic and Probabilistic Analyses

open access: yesGeosciences
Rainfall-induced landslides are widespread in Indonesia, particularly in West Java, where volcanic residual soils are typically stable but may become unstable during heavy rainfall. This study aims to back analyze the geotechnical factors contributing to

Laboratory experiments and dual‐domain modeling of infiltration dynamics in partially saturated fractured porous media

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, 2022
Many studies have shown that fracture networks can provide rapid pathways for water infiltration and time‐dependent recharge in the vadose zone of consolidated fractured rock formations. To investigate the control of fracture networks and fracture–matrix

Can Elastomers Combine Stiffness, Toughness and Fatigue Resistance?

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review studies how the molecular and macroscopic architecture of elastomers influence their mechanical properties including: stiffness, stretchability, toughness, fatigue resistance, and damping behavior. By linking the structure to performance, it proposes design principles for advanced elastomeric systems that combine mechanical properties ...

Microtomographic Measurements of Total Air‐Water Interfacial Areas for Soils

open access: yesWater Resources Research
Synchrotron X‐ray microtomography (XMT) was used to measure total air‐water interfacial areas (Aaw) as a function of water saturation (Sw) for several soils that comprise a range of physical and geochemical properties.

Defect‐Engineered Microwave‐Responsive Ni@C Composites From Waste PET for Catalytic Plastic Upcycling

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A circular upcycling strategy transforms waste poly(ethylene terephthalate) bottles into microwave‐responsive Ni@C catalyst featuring lattice‐distorted nickel cores and defective carbon shells. These strain‐rich heterointerfaces enhance dielectric loss and promote localized microwave hotspots, accelerating peroxymonosulfate activation and polymer‐chain

Unsaturated fatty acids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Fatty acids are long-chain hydrocarbons. They are called unsaturated fatty acids when they lack the maximum possible number of hydrogen atoms attached to every carbon atom. For example, if stearic acid, which has 18 carbon atoms and frequently occurs in animal and plant fats, is missing 2 hydrogen atoms, then a double bond is present and the resulting ...
