Impact of Sustainable Binders Based on Lignin and Collagen on the Volume Stability and Mechanical Properties of MgO‐C Refractories with MgO‐C Recyclates

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Collagen hydrolysate is evaluated as a sustainable binder for MgO‐C refractories. Its thermally induced cross‐linking and gas release lead to expansion and cracking in large bricks, but tailored batches with lignin, recyclates, or fine graphite improve the gas release while thermal treatment and stability.

Sensitivity analysis of flexoelectric materials surrogate model based on the isogeometric finite element method

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics, 2022
In this paper proposes a sensitivity analysis method based on a Polynomial Chaos Expansion (PCE) surrogate model for flexoelectric materials. The non-uniform rational B-splines (NURBS) basis functions to discretize the fourth-order partial differential ...

Additive Manufacturing of Continuous Fibre Reinforced Composites: Process, Characterisation, Modelling, and Sustainability

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Additive manufacturing provides precise control over the placement of continuous fibres within polymer matrices, enabling customised mechanical performance in composite components. This article explores processing strategies, mechanical testing, and modelling approaches for additive manufactured continuous fibre‐reinforced composites.

Kinematic diffusion approach to describe recharge phenomena in unsaturated fractured chalk

open access: yesJournal of Hydrology and Hydromechanics, 2017
When dealing with groundwater resources, a better knowledge of the hydrological processes governing flow in the unsaturated zone would improve the assessment of the natural aquifer recharge and its vulnerability to contamination.

Selective Benzene Capture by Metal‐Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs) hold significant potential for capturing benzene from air emissions and hydrocarbon mixtures in liquid phases. This capability stems from their precisely engineered structures, versatile chemistries, and diverse binding interactions.

Contractancy and shear behavior of extremely loose structure soils with particle breakage in saturated and unsaturated conditions [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences
Pumices with high pore voids of volcanic origin are distributed throughout Japan and are the causal layer of slope failures. In many cases of surface failures, it is difficult to assume that the resulting layers are fully saturated. The high waterholding

Unsaturated fatty acids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Fatty acids are long-chain hydrocarbons. They are called unsaturated fatty acids when they lack the maximum possible number of hydrogen atoms attached to every carbon atom. For example, if stearic acid, which has 18 carbon atoms and frequently occurs in animal and plant fats, is missing 2 hydrogen atoms, then a double bond is present and the resulting ...

Chemoselective Sequential Polymerization: An Approach Toward Mixed Plastic Waste Recycling

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Inspired by biological protein metabolism, this study demonstrates the closed‐loop recycling of mixed synthetic polymers via ring‐closing depolymerization followed by a chemoselective sequential polymerizations process. The approach recovers pure polymers from mixed feedstocks, even in multilayer formats, highlighting a promising strategy to overcome a
