The New German Guideline for Capacity of Unsignalized Intersections

1991
This paper describes the background of a new German guideline for the estimation of the ‘capacity at unsignalized intersections. It contains information on fundamental aspects of the theory as well as a description of the proposed procedure which results from several research projects carried out on behalf of the West German Federal Minister of ...

Collaboration and Optimal Conflict Resolution at an Unsignalized Intersection

IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2019
Safety and efficiency are important priorities in transportation engineering. The new research directions in intelligent transportation systems focus on autonomy and collaboration to improve safety and efficiency. In this paper, we consider the problem of conflict resolution at an unsignalized intersection.

CELLULAR AUTOMATA MODEL FOR UNSIGNALIZED T-SHAPED INTERSECTION

International Journal of Modern Physics C, 2009
In this paper, the unsignalized T-shaped intersection is modeled by a cellular automata model. The main street and the minor street join at the intersection. As to the traffic flow is not controlled by traffic lights, conflict happens between the vehicles from minor street and that from main street.

The Design of Unsignalized Intersections in the UK

1988
The cost of traffic delays and accidents at road junctions in the UK is estimated at some £6,000M or so per year, and more than 50% of it comes from unsignalised junctions. Design practices, which bear directly upon the efficiency, and therefore the user cost, of junctions have been subject to much scrutiny over the past decade, and the methods now ...

Conflicts and Delay Studies at Unsignalized Intersections

1988
This paper describes simulation models for unsignalized intersections and signalized intersections. The number of conflicts and vehicle delays have been used to evaluate the level of service of unsignalized intersections, where the number of conflicts is used to evaluate the safety effects and delay is used in cost benefit analysis.

Estimating the Safety Effects of Intersection Sight Distance at Unsignalized Intersections

Transportation Research Record: Journal of the Transportation Research Board, 2016
A gap acceptance crash is one of the most common types of multivehicle crashes at unsignalized intersections. Drivers’ gap acceptance is influenced by the intersection sight distance (ISD). Before this research, the relationship between ISD and safety (measured by crash frequency) at unsignalized intersections was not quantified.

Swedish Research on Unsignalized Intersections

1988
The methods used by the Swedish National Road Administration to calculate capacity, delay, queue length etc in unsignalized intersections are based on a queuing theory model and on earlу german methods. These methods are used in the CAPCAL computer program, which was completed in 1977.

An MDP Model of Vehicle-Pedestrian Interaction at an Unsignalized Intersection

2018 IEEE 88th Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC-Fall), 2018
Though autonomous vehicles are currently operating in several places, many important questions within the field of autonomous vehicle research remain to be addressed satisfactorily. In this paper, we examine the role of communication between pedestrians and autonomous vehicles at unsignalized intersections. The nature of interaction between pedestrians

Delay Time Model at Unsignalized Intersections

Journal of Transportation Engineering, 2014
AbstractA simulation process is presented for providing a point estimate of average traffic delay on minor roads at urban unsignalized intersections during peak hours. A performing process of microsimulation was carried out, and a good level of conformity was obtained between the traffic simulated in the peak hours and the corresponding amount of ...

Augmented Reality Experiment: Drivers' Behavior at an Unsignalized Intersection

IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, 2013
Applying new technologies to traffic engineering studies has become more urgent due to the high cost and risk associated with ordinary in-the-field testing. Augmented reality (AR) is one of those technologies, in which virtual (computer-generated) objects are added to the real scene in a way that the user cannot distinguish between real and virtual ...
