A simplified two‐station approach for modeling metabolism in dam tailwaters subject to diel flow variation

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, Volume 24, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Tailwaters are ubiquitous and highly managed ecosystems whose food webs often rely disproportionately on autochthonous energy. In situ continuous dissolved oxygen data are increasingly being used to estimate gross primary productivity and ecosystem respiration in rivers, but this approach is complicated in tailwaters, where upriver ...

Dual‐Scale Coupling Model and Experimental Validation of Instantaneous Dynamic Transverse Permeability for Large‐Tow Carbon Fiber

open access: yesSPE Polymers, Volume 7, Issue 4, October 2026.
Resin impregnation process of fiber tow: From macroscopic flow between fiber tows to microscopic impregnation within fiber flows. ABSTRACT Carbon fiber‐reinforced resin‐matrix composites have emerged as lightweight structural materials for diverse engineering applications, owing to their outstanding specific strength and specific modulus.

Validation of a Particle Image Velocimetry Algorithm Through Comparative Field and Laboratory Analysis

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, Volume 42, Issue 8, Page 1654-1672, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Flow velocity measurement is fundamental to hydrological and hydraulic studies, providing essential data for streamflow estimation and river dynamics analysis. Traditional in situ methods like propeller gauges and acoustic Doppler current profilers are accurate but intrusive and labour‐intensive, while non‐intrusive image processing methods ...

Integrated hydrologic and hydrodynamic modeling for flood hazard assessment in Ajay River Basin, West Bengal, India

open access: yesRiver, Volume 5, Issue 3, Page 465-483, August 2026.
Abstract The Ajay River, originating from the Chotanagpur Plateau (Bihar) and flowing through Jharkhand into West Bengal before merging with the Bhagirathi‐Hugli near Katwa, is among the most flood‐prone rivers in the region. Its lower reaches frequently experience rainfall‐induced flooding and embankment breaches during the mid‐ to late‐monsoon season.

A review of empirical dam breach models

open access: yesRiver, Volume 5, Issue 3, Page 328-350, August 2026.
Abstract Dam breach modelling is central to flood risk assessment, yet the empirical models commonly used for estimating breach parameters display considerable variability and uncertainty. This review evaluates the performance of widely applied empirical dam breach models and identifies those that consistently show lower uncertainty, such as the ...
