In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

The Recent Excitement in High-Density QCD

open access: yes, 1999
Over the past few months, the theory of QCD at high density has been advanced considerably. It provides new perspectives on, and controlled realizations of, confinement and chiral symmetry breaking.

Reduced vascular leakage correlates with breast carcinoma T regulatory cell infiltration but not with metastatic propensity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A mouse model for vascular normalization and a human breast cancer cohort were studied to understand the relationship between vascular leakage and tumor immune suppression. For this, endothelial and immune cell RNAseq, staining for vascular function, and immune cell profiling were employed.

Has the Quark-Gluon Plasma been seen?

open access: yes, 2005
Data from the first three years of running at RHIC are reviewed and put into context with data obtained previously at the AGS and SPS and with the physics question of creation of a quark-gluon plasma in high energy heavy ion collisions.

Fe/V and Fe/Co (001) superlattices: growth, anisotropy, magnetisation and magnetoresistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Some physical properties of bcc Fe/V and Fe/Co (001) superlattices are reviewed. The dependence of the magnetic anisotropy on the in-plane strain introduced by the lattice mismatch between Fe and V is measured and compared to a theoretical derivation ...

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.

Higher order corrections to H+- production [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
I discuss recent calculations of higher-order corrections to charged Higgs production through various partonic subprocesses. Particular attention is paid to H- production in association with a top quark at the LHC.Comment: 10 pages, 9 figures, invited ...

The MMP‐9/TIMP‐1 Ratio and Concentrations of Osteopontin Are Elevated in Cerebrospinal Fluid of People With Multiple Sclerosis and Decrease After Autologous Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives To evaluate the utility of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers—matrix metalloproteinase‐9 (MMP‐9), tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases‐1 (TIMP‐1), the MMP‐9/TIMP‐1 ratio, and osteopontin (OPN)—as indicators of blood–brain barrier (BBB) integrity and disease activity in people with relapsing–remitting multiple sclerosis (pwMS ...
