Folia Primatologica, 1970
Several genera of New World monkeys have high uric acid concentration in serum and urine comparable to man and the great apes. Like man these animals lack urate oxidase activity in liver tissue. The purine metabolism of these nonhuman primates appears to be similar to that of man as exemplified by fasting-induced hyperuricemia.

Urate-mediated regulation of urate oxidase inChlamydomonas reinhardtii
Protoplasma, 1998Expression of uncase (urate oxidase) fromChlamydomonas reinhardtii has been investigated by using specific polyclonal antibodies. By Western blot analyses performed under nondenaturing conditions, a 124 kDa protein band corresponding to active uricase was detected in protein extracts from cells cultured with urate or nitrogen-starved cells.

Comparative immunology of vertebrate urate oxidase
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1975Abstract 1. 1. The extent of immunological holomogy of urate oxidase from a number of vertebrate species was studied. 2. 2. The use of an enzyme-specific stain increased both the sensitivity and specificity of the immunodiffusion technique. 3. 3.

A biohybrid hydrogel for the urate-responsive release of urate oxidase
Journal of Controlled Release, 2013Functional biomaterials that detect and correct pathological parameters hold high promises for biomedical application. In this study we describe a biohybrid hydrogel that detects elevated concentrations of uric acid and responds by dissolution and the release of uric acid-degrading urate oxidase.
