Potential Role of the Resident Mesenchymal Stem-Like Cells in Renal Fibrogenesis after Ureteral Obstruction

open access: yesStem Cells International, 2019
The mechanisms of renal fibrogenesis after ureteral obstruction remain unclear. We tried to primarily expand mesenchymal stem cells from renal tissues and then investigated their role in fibrogenesis after ureteral obstruction.

Scintigraphy and Doppler ultrasonography for the evaluation of obstructive urinary calculi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Forty-seven patients with unilateral obstructive calculi (12 males and 35 females) were submitted to 99mTc-diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) or 99mTc-dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) scans for assessment of renal function.

D‐glucuronyl C5‐Epimerase Binds to EGFR to Suppress Kidney Fibrosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Glucuronyl C5‐epimerase (Hsepi, gene name Glce) is a key enzyme catalyzing heparan sulfate (HS) chain biosynthesis in HS proteoglycans, which are ubiquitously expressed on cell membranes. In normal renal tubular cells, Glce binds to the intracellular domains of EGFR, maintaining stable and orderly EGFR phosphorylation.

Recent Advances in Ureteral Stents

open access: yes대한영상의학회지, 2019
A ureteral stent is widely used to drain ureteral obstructions, which allows urine to bypass the obstruction. The double J stent, a representative ureteral stent, has undergone many advancements in material and design recently.

Robot-assisted excision of partially obstructing ureteral fibroepithelial polyp in a child: A case report and review of the literature

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Surgery Case Reports, 2022
Background: Fibroepithelial polyps are benign tumors located in the upper ureter and ureteropelvic junction. Given their location in rare cases they can cause hydronephrosis.

Restoration of SIRT3 Expression in Aged Mice Alleviates UUO‐Induced Renal Fibrosis by Reducing GSK‐3β Hyperacetylation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SIRT3 expression is significantly downregulated in the aged kidney, rendering the kidney more vulnerable to fibrotic changes in obstructive nephropathy. By promoting GSK‐3β deacetylation, SIRT3 indirectly inhibits Wnt/β‐catenin signaling, thereby suppressing renal fibrosis.

Renal function is associated with prognosis in stent-change therapy for malignant ureteral obstruction

open access: yesInvestigative and Clinical Urology, 2018
Purpose The authors performed this study to investigate the risk factors for predicting stent failure and to evaluate its impact on prognosis. Materials and Methods Between January 2002 and March 2017, we retrospectively reviewed 117 consecutive patients

Single Cell and Spatial Transcriptomics Define a Proinflammatory and Profibrotic Niche After Kidney Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By integrating single‐cell RNA sequencing and spatial transcriptomics, tenascin C (TNC) is unveiled as a central organizer of the proinflammatory and profibrotic niche in kidney fibrosis. TNC promotes macrophage activation through TLR4/NF‐κB signaling, leading to renal inflammation and fibrosis.

Laparoscopic ureterolysis with simultaneous ureteroscopy and percutaneous nephroscopy for treating complex ureteral obstruction after failed endoscopic intervention: A technical report

open access: yesAsian Journal of Urology, 2015
Objective: Complex ureteral obstruction is refractory to conventional urological intervention. This report describes a case of laparoscopic ureterolysis with simultaneous ureteroscopy and percutaneous nephroscopy for treating complex ureteral obstruction.
