Porcine kidney xenotransplantation: From primate models to clinical reality

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
In the face of a critical shortage of human donor kidneys for end‐stage renal disease patients, porcine kidney xenotransplantation has emerged as a viable solution. This field has navigated major hurdles, including immune rejection, physiological incompatibilities, potential biomechanical differences and the risk of cross‐species infection. To overcome

Laparoscopic ureterolysis with simultaneous ureteroscopy and percutaneous nephroscopy for treating complex ureteral obstruction after failed endoscopic intervention: A technical report

open access: yesAsian Journal of Urology, 2015
Objective: Complex ureteral obstruction is refractory to conventional urological intervention. This report describes a case of laparoscopic ureterolysis with simultaneous ureteroscopy and percutaneous nephroscopy for treating complex ureteral obstruction.

Ex vivo renal perfusion and autotransplantation in treatment of calculous disease or abdominal aortic aneurysm. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
Two more indications are described for temporary ex vivo perfusion of kidneys with revascularization of these organs as autografts to orthotopic or heterotopic locations. One of the patients had staghorn calculi which were removed from a solitary kidney.

The emerging role of cellular senescence in renal diseases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Cellular senescence represents the state of irreversible cell cycle arrest during cell division. Cellular senescence not only plays a role in diverse biological events such as embryogenesis, tissue regeneration and repair, ageing and tumour occurrence ...

Pharmacokinetics, safety, tolerability and fluorescence imaging of nizaracianine triflutate administered in three divided doses to healthy volunteers

open access: yesBritish Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Aim Fluorescence‐guided surgery enhances intraoperative visualization of anatomical structures. Nizaracianine is a near‐infrared fluorescent agent that is exclusively renally cleared in animal models. It enables real‐time ureteral imaging and identification, potentially reduces risk of injury and facilitates assessment before surgical closure.

5-HT2A receptor is the predominant receptor mediating contraction of the isolated porcine distal ureter to 5-HT in young and old animals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Isolated ureteral strips develop spontaneous phasic contractile activity which is enhanced by 5-hydroytryptamine (5-HT). The aim of this study was to identify the receptor subtype mediating these responses and to determine whether responses to 5-HT ...

Microsurgery of resection and anastomosis of a circumcaval ureter with focal stenosis in a feline: case report [PDF]

open access: yesArquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia
The circumcaval ureter, a rare venous anomaly, results from abnormal embryonic development of the posterior cardinal vein and often leads to ureteral obstruction and hydronephrosis, particularly in felines.

Ureteral Access Sheath Influence on the Ureteral Wall Evaluated by Cyclooxygenase-2 and Tumor Necrosis Factor-a in a Porcine Model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Objective: To examine the effect of ureteral access sheath (UAS) on the expression of the pro-inflammatory mediators cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in the ureteral wall.
