Comprehensive optimization of urinary exfoliated tumor cells tests in bladder cancer with a promising microfluidic platform

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 12, Issue 6, Page 7283-7293, March 2023., 2023
In this study we use our novel CytoBot device for detecting urinary exfoliated tumor cells (UETCs) in the urine of bladder cancer patients. CytoBot specifically captures UETCs based on cell size and epithelial cell surface markers, which is verified via fluorescence microscopy.

Review and update of a Nutrient Transfer model used for estimating nitrous oxide emissions from complex grazed landscapes, and implications for nationwide accounting

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Quality, Volume 51, Issue 5, Page 930-940, September/October 2022., 2022
Abstract In New Zealand, nitrous oxide emissions from grazed hill pastures are estimated using different emission factors for urine and dung deposited on different slope classes. Allocation of urine and dung to each slope class needs to consider the distribution of slope classes within a landscape and animal behavior.

Aerococcus urinae – A potent biofilm builder in endocarditis [PDF]

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2020
The diagnosis of infective endocarditis (IE) remains a challenge. One of the rare bacterial species recently associated with biofilms and negative cultures in infective endocarditis is Aerococcus urinae. Whether the low number of reported cases might be due to lack of awareness and misidentification, mainly as streptococci, is currently being discussed.
