Pediatric Neurogenic Bladder and Bowel Dysfunction: Will My Child Ever Be out of Diapers?

European Urology Focus, 2020
CONTEXT Managing patient and parent expectations regarding urinary and fecal continence is important with congenital conditions that produce neurogenic bladder and bowel dysfunction. Physicians need to be aware of common treatment algorithms and expected

Urinary Tract Infections of the Neurogenic Bladder

2019
Patients with neurogenic lower urinary tract dysfunction (NLUTD) are at increased risk of recurrent urinary tract infection (UTI), with much higher incidence reported compared with a “normal” population. As a result, this leads to increased utilisation of healthcare resources as well as morbidity and even mortality in some cases.

SCREENING FOR URINARY TRACT INFECTION IN CHILDREN WITH NEUROGENIC BLADDERS

American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, 1993
Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are a frequent and potentially disabling problem for children with neurogenic bladders. Frequent monitoring for UTIs using bacterial culture is expensive and troublesome; thus an inexpensive, dependable screening method is desirable.

Clinicopathologic Features of Benign Neurogenic Tumor of Urinary Bladder

International Journal of Surgical Pathology, 2017
Background. Benign neurogenic tumor involving the urinary bladder is a very rare and heterogeneous disease group. The clinical and radiological diagnosis may be difficult because of the disease’s rarity and the histological similarities of each disease especially in needle biopsy specimens.

The Impact of the Artificial Urinary Sphincter in the Neurogenic Bladder on the Upper Urinary Tracts

Journal of Urology, 1986
The charts and x-rays of 120 neurogenic bladder patients who underwent artificial sphincter implantation for treatment of urinary incontinence between 1973 and 1984 were reviewed retrospectively. Patients were followed for 3 to 130 months (average 36.8 months). The upper urinary tracts remained unchanged in 108 patients (90 per cent).

Pyuria as a Marker of Urinary Tract Infection in Neurogenic Bladder

Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 2019
Objective: The utility of the urinalysis as a potential marker to diagnose urinary tract infection (UTI) in patients with neurogenic bladder is controversial. We assessed the baseline urine characteristics and intraindividual variance of pyuria in a cohort of asymptomatic children with neurogenic bladder followed longitudinally.

Inflammatory response to Escherichia coli urinary tract infection in the neurogenic bladder of the spinal cord injured host.

Journal of Urology, 2014
PURPOSE Urinary tract infections cause significant morbidity in patients with spinal cord injury. An in vivo spinal cord injured rat model of experimental Escherichia coli urinary tract infection mimics human disease with enhanced susceptibility to ...
