Tumor mutational burden as a determinant of metastatic dissemination patterns

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study performed a comprehensive analysis of genomic data to elucidate whether metastasis in certain organs share genetic characteristics regardless of cancer type. No robust mutational patterns were identified across different metastatic locations and cancer types.

Loss of RNF41 promotes bladder cancer metastasis through increasing NUDC stability to enhance tubulin polymerization

open access: yesCell Death and Disease
Bladder cancer (BCa) is a representative of urological cancer with a high recurrence and metastasis is the leading cause of death from BCa. The underlying mechanism of BCa metastasis remains poorly defined.

Multi-omics dissection of fatty acid metabolism heterogeneity identifies PRDX1 as a prognostic marker in bladder cancer

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
BackgroundFatty−acid metabolism (FAM) is rewired in bladder cancer (BLCA), yet its impact on intratumoral diversity and patient outcome is unclear.MethodsTo characterize FAM heterogeneity, we integrated spatial and single-cell transcriptomic approaches ...

Association Between BAK1 Gene rs210138 Polymorphisms and Testicular Germ Cell Tumors: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2020
Background: Several studies including some genome-wide association studies (GWAS) had shown that BAK1 gene rs210138 polymorphisms might be associated with testicular germ cell tumors (TGCT).

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Exploring the shared genetic architecture between leukocyte telomere length and renal cell carcinoma: a cross-trait analysis

open access: yesDiscover Oncology
Background While epidemiological studies suggest an association between leukocyte telomere length (LTL) and renal cell carcinoma (RCC), the genetic basis underlying this relationship remains to be elucidated.

Brain metastasis from prostate cancer with neurologic symptoms as the first sign: a case report

open access: yesThe Aging Male
Background Prostate cancer most commonly metastasizes to bones and lymph nodes; visceral metastases are uncommon. Central nervous system involvement is exceedingly rare. Here, we report a case of prostate cancer with brain metastasis initially presenting

The risk factors and predictive model for cardiac valve calcification in patients on maintenance peritoneal dialysis: a single-center retrospective study

open access: yesRenal Failure, 2023
Background Cardiovascular calcification includes cardiac valve calcification (CVC) and vascular calcification. We aimed to analyze risk factors for CVC, and construct a predictive model in maintenance peritoneal dialysis (MPD) patients. Methods We ...

Identification of serum protein biomarkers for pre‐cancerous lesions associated with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This work identified serum proteins associated with pancreatic epithelial neoplasms (PanINs) and early‐stage PDAC. Proteomics screens assessed genetically engineered mice with abundant PanINs, KPC mice (Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐KrasG12D/+ Lox‐STOP‐Lox‐Trp53R172H/+ Pdx1‐Cre) before PDAC development and also early‐stage PDAC patients (n = 31), compared to benign ...

No ureteral catheter mini percutaneous nephrolithotomy (NUC-mPCNL) achieves enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS)

open access: yesScientific Reports
Conventional mini percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mPCNL) typically necessitates the pre-operative placement of ureteral catheters. With the development of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS), we introduce a novel approach: no ureteral catheter mini ...
