ABSTRACT Aims To characterize the urinary microbiome in women performing clean intermittent self‐catheterization (CISC) and explore microbial changes associated with transitioning from single‐use to reusable catheters. Methods This microbiome study of the COMPaRE trial included female CISC patients with urinary retention randomized to either single‐use

ABSTRACT Background The etiology of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is not well understood, though recent literature suggests that the urinary tract microbiome may play a role. We aimed to examine the prostatic microbiome in BPH and its associations with patient characteristics. Methods Men undergoing Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP)

The Role of Bacterial Proteases From the Microbiome in Human Disease
Proteases degrade proteins and peptides, recycling materials and preventing unnecessary buildup within the cell. They can also be secreted and act in extracellular space. Bacterial proteases are often secreted and function as virulence factors. In the context of the microbiome, they can contribute to host–microbe interactions to facilitate colonization

Abstract Introduction Inflammation and neuronal hypersensitivity are reactive protective mechanisms after urothelial injury. In lower urinary tract dysfunctions (LUTD), such as urinary tract infection (UTI), bladder pain syndrome with interstitial cystitis (BPS/IC) and neurogenic LUTD after spinal cord injury (SCI), chronic inflammation can develop. It

This study uses turbidimetric bioassays to detect antimicrobial activity in asymptomatic bacteriuria (ABU) isolates against uropathogenic E. coli (UPEC). The cell‐free supernatant (CFS) from eight ABU isolates showed promising results. Notably, E. coli PUTS 58 and SK‐106‐1 demonstrated enhanced activity in artificial urine medium.

Annotations of induced prophages.
Due to its frequent association with urinary tract infections (UTIs), Escherichia coli is the best characterized constituent of the urinary microbiota (urobiome). However, uropathogenic E. coli is just one member of the urobiome. In addition to bacterial
