Oleanolic acid and ursolic acid stabilize liposomal membranes

Lipids, 1997
AbstractThe effects of oleanolic acid (OA) and ursolic acid (UA) on the fluidity and stability of dipalmitoyl phosphatidylcholine (DPPC) liposomal membrane were monitored by measuring the fluorescence polarization of 1,6‐diphenyl‐1,3,5‐hexatriene labeled in the liposomal membrane and the leakage of calcein from the probe‐encapsulated liposomes.

Oleanolic acid and ursolic acid: Research perspectives

Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2005
Oleanolic acid and ursolic acid are ubiquitous triterpenoids in plant kingdom, medicinal herbs, and are integral part of the human diet. During the last decade over 700 research articles have been published on their research, reflecting tremendous interest and progress in our understanding of these triterpenoids.

Ursolic acid: An anti‐ and pro‐inflammatory triterpenoid

Molecular Nutrition & Food Research, 2008
AbstractThere is growing interest in the elucidation of the biological functions of triterpenoids, ubiquitously distributed throughout the plant kingdom, some of which are used as anticancer and anti‐inflammatory agents in Asian countries. Ursolic acid (UA), a natural pentacyclic triterpenoid carboxylic acid, is the major component of some traditional ...

Determination of Ursolic and Oleanolic Acid in Sambuci Fructus

Chemistry & Biodiversity, 2014
AbstractElderberries are used in the preparation of pie, jelly, punch, wine, or liqueur, as well as in many herbal remedies and food supplements. Elderberry products may provide diaphoretic, diuretic, antioxidant, and immunostimulant activities that offer protection against cold and flu.

Nonenzymatic Antioxidative and Antiglycative Effects of Oleanolic Acid and Ursolic Acid

Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2007
Oleanolic acid and ursolic acid are two triterpenes presented in several herbs. This study analyzed the content of oleanolic acid and ursolic acid in eight locally available fresh herbs, also examined several nonenzymatic antioxidant activities of these two triterpenes, and used a liposome system to evaluate the influence of temperature and pH upon the

Protective effects of ursolic acid and oleanolic acid in leukemic cells

Mutation Research - Fundamental and Molecular Mechanisms of Mutagenesis, 2006
Ursolic acid (UA) and oleanolic acid (OA) have similar chemical structures but differ in the position of one methyl group on the ring E. We investigated protective effects of these two triterpenoic acids against H(2)O(2)-induced DNA damage in leukemic L1210, K562 and HL-60 cells using single-cell gel electrophoresis (SCGE). We compared their protective
