Pharmacology of oleanolic acid and ursolic acid
Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 1995Oleanolic acid and ursolic acid are triterpenoid compounds that exist widely in food, medicinal herbs and other plants. This review summarizes the pharmacological studies on these two triterpenoids. Both oleanolic acid and ursolic acid are effective in protecting against chemically induced liver injury in laboratory animals.

The cytotoxic activity of ursolic acid derivatives
European Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2005Ursolic acid and 2alpha-hydroxyursolic acid isolated from apple peels were found to show growth inhibitory activity against four tumor cell lines, HL-60, BGC, Bel-7402 and Hela. Structural modifications were performed on the C-3, C-28 and C-11 positions of ursolic acid and the cytotoxicity of the derivatives was evaluated.

Ursolic acid is a hydroxy pentacyclic triterpene, which has a chemoprotective activity in human. A reliable and reproducible liquid chromatography-mass spectrometric assay (LC-MS) was developed for the determination of ursolic acid in laboratory-made mixtures and in leaves and twigs extracts of Staphylea holocarpa Hemsl.

Ursolic acid nanoparticles for glioblastoma therapy
Nanomedicine: Nanotechnology, Biology and Medicine, 2023Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and fatal primary tumor in the central nervous system (CNS). The effect of chemotherapy of GBM is limited due to the existence of blood-brain barrier (BBB). The aim of this study is to develop self-assembled nanoparticles (NPs) of ursolic acid (UA) for GBM treatment.UA NPs were synthesized by solvent ...

Chemical Studies on Ursolic Acid*
Journal of the American Pharmaceutical Association (Scientific ed.), 1953From ursolic acid, C29H46C29H46{−OH(C−2)−COOH(C−28), there was prepared acetyl ursolyl amide and acetyl ursolyl nitrile, both of which were reduced by lithium aluminum hydride to an ursolyl amine (C–28), C29H46{−OH−CH2NH2. By a similar reduction of ursonic acid oxime there was obtained an isomeric ursolyl amine (C–2), C29H46{−NH2−CH2OH. Methyl ursonate,

Solubilization of oleanolic acid and ursolic acid by cosolvency
Archives of Pharmacal Research, 1997Solubilities of oleanolic acid and ursolic acid in aqueous surfactant solutions, liquid polyethylene glycols (PEG), and solvents of various polarity were measured. The results showed that the solutes were slightly or moderately solubilized in the surfactant solutions and the liquid PEGs.

Modulation of angiogenic factors by ursolic acid
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2008Investigations were carried out to understand the molecular basis of the effect of ursolic acid on angiogenesis by analysing its effects on the expression of modulators of angiogenesis by HUVECs in culture. Treatment with ursolic acid increased the expression of adhesion molecules such as E-selectin, CD-31 and I-CAM, upregulated angiogenic growth ...

Ursolic Acid Inhibits Acid Sphingomyelinase in Intestinal Cells
Phytotherapy Research, 2012Ursolic acid (UA) has antiinflammatory and anticancer effects on mammalian cells. Increase in acid sphingomyelinase (SMase) is associated with several inflammatory diseases including inflammatory bowel diseases. The enzyme has become a target for drug discovery. The present study examined the roles of UA on acid SMase in intestinal cells. We found that
