Rediscovering Use Value

2021
Abstract This chapter rediscovers use value as an essential category for understanding commodification and capitalism more generally. The distinction between use value and exchange value goes back to ancient Greek philosophy and it played an important role in classical political economy. However, with the invention of marginal utility in

Human Values and Marijuana Use

International Journal of the Addictions, 1990
The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between prioritized rankings of human values among persons who either use or do not use marijuana. Discriminant analyses indicated that personal values are more important to marijuana users, while social values are more important to nonusers.

Defuzzification using most typical values

IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man and Cybernetics, Part B (Cybernetics), 1998
A new approach for the defuzzification process, based on the Most Typical Value (MTV) concept, is being introduced and investigated. It assumes that the single decision, based on the output fuzzy subset, should represent a typical value of this set, rather than a numerical "central tendency" of its elements.

Using Subsample Values as Typical Values

Journal of the American Statistical Association, 1969
Abstract The subsample values of a statistic t are the values of t for subsets of the whole sample. Subsample values may be used as indicators of variability of t. For real valued statistics t, estimating a parameter θ, the subsample values are defined to form a set of typical values if the intervals between the ordered subsample values each include θ ...

Storageless value prediction using prior register values

Proceedings of the 26th International Symposium on Computer Architecture (Cat. No.99CB36367), 1999
This paper presents a technique called register value prediction (RVP) which uses a type of locality called register-value reuse. By predicting that an instruction will produce the value that is already stored in the destination register, we eliminate the need for large value buffers to enable value prediction.

Aroma values — a useful concept?

Food / Nahrung, 1976
AbstractRapidly increasing knowledge about the high complexity of food aromas requires selection or ranking procedures as to the importance of the particular components for flavour impression. For this purpose the concept of aroma values has been discussed which calculates quantitative data in connection with aroma effectiveness of the compounds.

Diagnostic value of tympanometry using subject-specific normative values

International Journal of Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology, 2005
Tympanometry has proven valuable in the diagnosis of otitis media in infants. The classification used in the Finnish otitis media studies has resulted in high specificity yet only moderate sensitivity. We aimed to explore the benefit of using each subject's individual previous test results (obtained at previous visits of the children when diagnosed ...

Using Pharmacoeconomics to Value Pharmacotherapy

Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 2008
Pharmacotherapeutic decisions are increasingly constrained in all clinical settings by the costs of drug treatment and medical care. Some biotech therapies (e.g., Avastin, Cerzyme, Herceptin, Gleevec, Erbitux) can cost from $10,000 to more than $100,000 per treatment episode.
