Daylight Availability of Living Rooms in Dense Residential Areas under Current Planning Regulations: A Cross-Region Case Study in China

open access: yesBuildings
After the pandemic, as it becomes more feasible to study and work from home, the quality of residential daylighting has attracted increasing attention. With the rapid growth of high-density residential areas, China is confronted with the incoordination ...

Using support vector machine to detect desk illuminance sensor blockage for closed-loop daylight harvesting

open access: yesEnergy and Buildings, 2022
Daylight can reduce electric lighting in buildings. This is facilitated by sensors that relay real-time illuminance data to a light controller. When daylight provides greater than required or desired levels of illuminance, control actions enable electric lights to reduce their output and save energy.

Daylighting Strategies for Low-Rise Residential Buildings Through Analysis of Architectural Design Parameters

open access: yesArchitecture
Daylighting is essential in residential building design because it influences energy efficiency and visual comfort while also supporting occupants’ health and overall well-being. Adequate natural light exposure aids circadian regulation and psychological

Degradation of Typical Indoor Air Pollutants Using Fe-Doped TiO2Thin Film under Daylight Illumination [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, 2014
A type of iron-doped titania thin film was prepared by means of sol-gel method to degrade indoor formaldehyde (HCHO), ammonia (NH3), and benzene (C6H6) under sunlight. The photocatalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-Vis spectroscopy, and energy dispersive spetra (EDS). The results showed that the

Off‐Grid Solar Systems: An Experimental Work and Systematic Techno‐Economic Analysis

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
In the study mentioned above, experimental monitoring and economic evaluation of two off‐grid PV systems were conducted using a low‐cost data logger. The results suggest that basic DC systems are economically feasible compared to grid power, but that AC systems require further cost‐cutting to achieve financial viability.

The Ecology of Human Sleep (EcoSleep) Cohort Study: Protocol for a longitudinal repeated measurement burst design study to assess the relationship between sleep determinants and outcomes under real‐world conditions across time of year

open access: yesJournal of Sleep Research, Volume 34, Issue 2, April 2025.
Summary The interplay of daily life factors, including mood, physical activity, or light exposure, influences sleep architecture and quality. Laboratory‐based studies often isolate these determinants to establish causality, thereby sacrificing ecological validity.

The Impact of Lunar Phases During Day and Night Cycles on Perinatal Outcomes: A Nationwide Cohort Study

open access: yesBirth, Volume 53, Issue 1, Page 192-200, March 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Light changes during the lunar cycle affect rhythms in diverse species. Human studies focusing on whether the moon influences human health have so far neglected the effects of light/dark cycles. The purpose of this study was to investigate whether lunar phases impact perinatal outcomes by considering illumination levels due to day ...
