Effect of removing direct payment for health care on utilisation and health outcomes in Ghanaian children: a randomised controlled trial. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
BACKGROUND: Delays in accessing care for malaria and other diseases can lead to disease progression, and user fees are a known barrier to accessing health care. Governments are introducing free health care to improve health outcomes.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Road User Charging: Acceptability and Effectiveness [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
One of the major barriers to implementation of road user charging is how to design a scheme that is simultaneously acceptable to the public and effective in achieving its objective.

α‐Synuclein aggregation landscape from phase separation to neurotoxic intermediates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Alpha‐synuclein aggregation in Parkinson's disease involves a complex landscape of transient intermediates, including oligomers, fibrils and liquid–liquid phase separation (LLPS). A view is emerging in which LLPS maturation into solid‐like condensates may contribute to the formation of neurotoxic species.

Are Ghana's roads paying their way? Assessing road use cost and user charges in Ghana [PDF]

open access: yes
The author studied how much road damage contributes to road use costs in Ghana and how the marginal social costs should be recovered. This required understanding the road deterioration process better and analyzing the implications for vehicle operating ...

Implementing ETC System on Hungarian Motorway Network

open access: yesPromet (Zagreb), 2006
Question of transport infrastructure charges - among others- covers calculation and allocation of infrastructure costsreferring different users. Cost allocation forms the basis of settingthe user charges.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Optimal user charges and cost recovery for roads in developing countries [PDF]

open access: yes
The optimal charge for road use is equal to variable costs for road maintenance, together with the costs road users impose on other road users and on the rest of society.

User charges for Municipal Infrastructure in Western Canada [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
There has been an increasing reliance on the user-pay model to fund municipal infrastructure in Canada. User fees as a source of own-source municipal revenue have more than tripled since 1965 (Tindal et al. 2012, p. 262).

Driving electrification: the impact of electricity pricing on heat pump adoption, electric vehicle charging, and building energy technologies

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Letters
Decarbonizing the building and transport sectors requires electricity pricing designs that can effectively support the adoption of heat pumps (HPs) and electric vehicles (EVs).
