Evidence of West Nile Virus Infections in Wild Boars (Sus scrofa) in the Netherlands, 2018-2021. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Introduction Orthoflaviviruses are emerging in Europe and have potential significant impact on animal and public health. Usutu virus (USUV) and West Nile virus (WNV) have been first detected in the Netherlands in 2016 and 2020, respectively. Wild boars (Sus scrofa) have been suggested as an interesting population to detect the circulation of ...

Molecular and Serological Screening of West Nile and Usutu Virus in Birds and Humans: A Sentinel Study in Finland. [PDF]
We developed sensitive real‐time PCR assays for West Nile virus and Usutu virus to screen bird and human samples in Finland. Although no positive samples were detected, active migratory flyways and recent cases in neighbouring countries highlight the risk of future introduction and the need for continued surveillance.

Usutu virus (USUV) is an African mosquito-borne Flavivirus. It newly emerged in Europe firstly with a significant die-off of blackbirds in 2001. Human cases occur but often mainly asymptomatic courses (1). This thesis analyzed whether USUV and West Nile virus (WNV) neutralizing antibodies (abs) can be detected in immunoglobulin fractionated from plasma

Severe Usutu Virus Encephalitis Treated With Corticosteroids: A Case Report. [PDF]
Usutu virus (USUV) is a neurotropic flavivirus, phylogenetically related to West Nile virus (WNV), maintained in the environment through a bird‐to‐mosquito transmission cycle, with humans and other animals occasionally becoming infected. In recent years, different cases of human infections have been reported concomitantly with increased viral ...

A lateral flow microarray immunoassay to detect USUV NS1-specific antibodies in tissues of deceased blackbirds in the Netherlands. [PDF]
Usutu virus (USUV) is an arbovirus that circulates between mosquitoes and birds with occasional spillover events into non-avian species. USUV continues to circulate in the Netherlands, particularly in Eurasian blackbirds (Turdus merula), although other USUV-susceptible avian species have also been found.

Usutu virus (USUV) is a mosquito-borne flavivirus of African origin. Over the past decades, USUV has spread through Europe causing mass die-offs among multiple bird species. The natural transmission cycle of USUV involves Culex spp. mosquitoes as vectors

West Nile Virus Vaccination Protects against Usutu Virus Disease in Mice
West Nile virus (WNV) and Usutu virus (USUV) are mosquito-borne flaviviruses that can cause neuroinvasive disease in humans. WNV and USUV circulate in both Africa and Europe and are closely related.

An international study on emerging arboviral infections and blood safety. [PDF]
Abstract Background Emerging and re‐emerging arboviral infections are a risk to blood safety. We conducted an international survey on how blood establishments respond to current and future arbovirus threats. Study Design and Methods A questionnaire on arbovirus donor deferral strategies, pathogen reduction, and donation screening was distributed to ...

North American House Sparrows Are Competent for Usutu Virus Transmission
Usutu virus (USUV, Flaviviridae) is an emerging mosquito-borne virus that has been implicated in neuroinvasive disease in humans and epizootic deaths in wild birds. USUV is maintained in an enzootic cycle between ornithophilic mosquitoes, primarily Culex

ABSTRACT The Usutu virus (USUV) is an emerging arbovirus virus maintained in the environment of Afro-Eurasia via a bird-mosquito-bird enzootic cycle and sporadically infected other vertebrates. Despite primarily asymptomatic or mild symptoms, humans infected by USUV can develop severe neurological diseases such as meningoencephalitis ...
