Multiscale modeling of mechanotransduction in the utricle [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Neurophysiology, 2019
We review recent progress in using numerical models to relate utricular hair bundle and otoconial membrane (OM) structure to the functional requirements imposed by natural behavior in turtles. The head movements section reviews the evolution of experimental attempts to understand vestibular system function with emphasis on turtles, including data ...

Cystoscopic Management of Prostatic Utricles

Urology, 2021
In this case series (n = 7) on prostatic utricles (PU), retention of urine was seen in 5 of 7, urinary tract infection (4 of 7), recurrent epidydymo-orchitis (3 of 7), and scrotal sinus (1 of 7). Voiding cystourethrogram established diagnosis in 3 of 7 patients while CT/MRI in 4 of 7 patients.

The electrophysiology of the utricle

Pflgers Archiv European Journal of Physiology, 1972
The Na+ concentration in utricular endolymph of guinea pigs was measured with Na+ specific electrodes and found to be 12.6±5.8 mEqu/l. The utricular potential was 1.8±4.4 mV. Permanent anoxia resulting in the death of the animal caused the potential to fall by 15 mV and the Na+ concentration to rise at a rate of 0.4 mEqu/l per minute.

The Influence of the Utricle on Nystagmus

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1960
When the utriclar macula was pressed by the otolith, the nystagmus to the same side was enhanced. By resecting the utricular nerve, it was found the directional preponderance was to the opposite side. We can be sure that the utricle has an influence on the formation of nystagmus.

Using the term utricle

Journal of Paleontology, 1992
Certain groups of living Chlorophyta (green algae) have thalli made up of long, tubular cells with many nuclei and many plastids (Tappan, 1980; Bold and Wynne, 1985). The only cross walls in these coenocytes are those that isolate the gamete-producing structures. As the coenocytes approach the edges of the thallus, they branch, generally dichotomously,
