Intraspecific variation in drought response of Populus cathayana grown under ambient and enhanced UV-B radiation

open access: yes, 2009
The effects of drought, enhanced UV-B radiation and their combination on plant growth and physiological traits were investigated in a greenhouse experiment in two populations of Populus cathayana Rehder originating from high and low altitude in south ...

Solar UV radiation measurements with polysulphone [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
[Abstract]: In order to optimize the UV exposure of humans, an understanding of the complex solar UV environment is necessary. Dosimeters based on either biological or chemical UV dosimeters have been developed and are a powerful tool in the research on ...

Rapid Fabrication of Self‐Propelled and Steerable Magnetic Microcatheters for Precision Medicine

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A rapid Joule heating fabrication method for the production of self‐propelling, adaptive microcatheters, with tunable stiffness and integrated microfluidic channels is presented. Demonstrated through three microrobotic designs, including a steerable guiding catheter, an untethered wave‐crawling TubeBot, and a distal‐end propelled microcatheter, it was ...

Bioorthogonal Photoactivation of 2‐Nitrobenzyl Caged Doxorubicin Anticancer Prodrugs on Gold Nanostars

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Bioorthogonal chemistry was applied to intracellularly photoactivate Doxorubicin (Dox) using gold nanostars (AuNSt) and near‐infrared (NIR) light. Two prodrugs were used: one photoactivatable, masked with 2‐nitrobenzyl carbamate (proDox1) and another photolabile, masked with 2‐nitrobenzyl diol (proDox2), which was attached to the AuNSt surface.

Physics of stratospheric ozone and UV-B radiation

open access: yesAustralian Meteorological Magazine, 1997
To help understand the role of ozone in protecting life on earth, a brief review is presented of the processes which determine the ‘normal’ distribution of ozone in the stratosphere and its variations with latitude, with elevation and with time of year.

Water Permeates and Plasticizes Amorphous Carbon Dots: Unraveling the Inner Accessibility of the Nanoparticles by Glass Transition Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The water permeability of amorphous carbon dots (CDs) is demonstrated by investigating their plasticization. Novel polyamide‐based and amorphous nanoparticles are synthesized by controlling their inner packing density. Water plasticization is evidenced by the decrease of the CDs glass transition temperature with increasing the hydration degree.

Physiological responses to drought and enhanced UV-B radiation in two contrasting Picea asperata populations

open access: yes, 2007
The responses of two Picea asperata Mast. populations to enhanced ultraviolet B (UV-B) radiation under wellwatered and drought conditions were investigated to further elucidate the effect of UV-B radiation on drought tolerance. Two P.

Opportunities of Semiconducting Oxide Nanostructures as Advanced Luminescent Materials in Photonics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The review discusses the challenges of wide and ultrawide bandgap semiconducting oxides as a suitable material platform for photonics. They offer great versatility in terms of tuning microstructure, native defects, doping, anisotropy, and micro‐ and nano‐structuring. The review focuses on their light emission, light‐confinement in optical cavities, and
