Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Removal of Trimethoprim and 5-Fluorouracil by UV/Persulfate and UV/VUV Persulfate Methods

open access: yesEWaS5 International Conference: “Water Security and Safety Management: Emerging Threats or New Challenges? Moving from Therapy and Restoration to Prognosis and Prevention”, 2022
The UV, UV/VUV photolysis and their combination with persulfate (S2O82−) were studied for the elimination of trimethoprim and 5-fluorouracil. Methods were examined in terms of transformation and mineralization rate and the matrix effect. The relative contribution of the direct UV photolysis and radical-based reactions (•OH, SO4•−) were also ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Incorporating biodegradation and advanced oxidation processes in the treatment of spent metalworking fluids [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The treatment of spent metalworking fluids (MWFs) is difficult due to their complex and variable composition. Small businesses often struggle to meet increasingly stringent legislation and rising costs as they need to treat this wastewater on site ...

QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH ON THE ACTIVE COMPONENT OF SILYMARIN IN SILYBUM MARIANUM SEED POWDER FROM VARIOUS GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS

open access: yesFood and Environment Safety, 2022
Many studies have proved that bioactive components of Silybum marianum powder have excellent hepatoprotective action. The silymarin is a mixture of mainly three flavonolignans, for example, silybin, silydianin and silychristin, with silybin being the ...

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Review of ultraviolet ageing mechanisms and anti-ageing methods for asphalt binders

open access: yesJournal of Road Engineering, 2022
Summary: Asphalt binder is inevitably aged by ultraviolet (UV) light during its service period. UV ageing can significantly decrease the technical properties of asphalt binder. The sensitivity of asphalt to UV ageing and thermal-oxidative ageing differs,

Simultaneous estimation of esomeprazole and domperidone by UV spectrophotometric method

open access: yesIndian Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2008
A novel, simple, sensitive and rapid spectrophotometric method has been developed for simultaneous estimation of esomeprazole and domperidone. The method involved solving simultaneous equations based on measurement of absorbance at two wavelengths, 301 nm and 284 nm, lambda max of esomeprazole and domperidone respectively.

An unexpected alternative viologen electron mediator site in tungsten‐containing formate dehydrogenase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...
