UVA-induced melanocytic lesions
British Journal of Dermatology, 1987The occurrence of melanocytic lesions following PUVA therapy is well documented. We describe a patient who developed similar lesions after cosmetic use of a home sun-bed without psoralen administration. Histological examination showed increased numbers of large and sometimes atypical melanocytes, which may theoretically act as precursors for melanoma.

There is a long history of utilization of phototherapy for treatment of skin conditions. Because of its longer wavelength, UVA1 phototherapy is able to penetrate into the dermis and subcutis. This depth of penetration, combined with its unique immunomodulating properties, makes UVA1 an effective treatment modality for many immune-mediated skin diseases.

Unravelling UVA-induced mutagenesis
Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences, 2012Ultraviolet A (UVA) radiation represents more than 90% of the solar UV radiation reaching Earth's surface. Exposure to solar UV radiation is a major risk in the occurrence of non-melanoma skin cancer. Whole genome sequencing data of melanoma tumors recently obtained makes it possible also to definitively associate malignant melanoma with sunlight ...
