Source height and contact with terrestrial soil drive transplanted epiphyte performance

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 111, Issue 11, Page 2388-2400, November 2023., 2023
Tropical vascular epiphytes, such as this orchid Peristeria pendula, performed worse when experimentally transplanted to new substrates in contact with terrestrial soil, versus substrates just above the soil surface. The results are some of the first empirical data supporting the epiphyte enemy escape hypothesis.

Incorporating multidimensional behavior into a risk management tool for a critically endangered and migratory species

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 37, Issue 5, October 2023., 2023
Abstract Conservation of migratory species exhibiting wide‐ranging and multidimensional behaviors is challenged by management efforts that only utilize horizontal movements or produce static spatial–temporal products. For the deep‐diving, critically endangered eastern Pacific leatherback turtle, tools that predict where turtles have high risks of ...

Is there a Common Digital Market in the European Union? Implications for the European Digitalization Strategy

open access: yesJCMS: Journal of Common Market Studies, Volume 61, Issue 3, Page 797-814, May 2023., 2023
Abstract Due to the impact of the COVID‐19 pandemic, people has changed the way they work, learn and socialize. Exploring the risks and benefits of flexibility in biodiversity offset location in a case study of migratory shorebirds

open access: yesConservation Biology, Volume 37, Issue 2, April 2023., 2023
Abstract Biodiversity offsets aim to counterbalance the residual impacts of development on species and ecosystems. Guidance documents explicitly recommend that biodiversity offset actions be located close to the location of impact because of higher potential for similar ecological conditions, but allowing greater spatial flexibility has been proposed ...

EAACI Molecular Allergology User's Guide 2.0

open access: yesPediatric Allergy and Immunology, Volume 34, Issue S28, March 2023., 2023
Abstract Since the discovery of immunoglobulin E (IgE) as a mediator of allergic diseases in 1967, our knowledge about the immunological mechanisms of IgE‐mediated allergies has remarkably increased. In addition to understanding the immune response and clinical symptoms, allergy diagnosis and management depend strongly on the precise identification of ...

Soil carbon storage is related to tree functional composition in naturally regenerating tropical forests

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 36, Issue 12, Page 3175-3187, December 2022., 2022
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Regenerating tropical forests are increasingly important for their role in the global carbon cycle. Carbon stocks in above‐ground biomass can recover to old‐growth forest levels within 60–100 years.
