From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

The fatigue behavior of V-notches in presence of residual stresses: recent developments and future outcomes [PDF]

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2017
Residual stresses, arising from welding processes or nonhomogeneous plastic deformations, broadly influence the high cycle fatigue behavior of mechanical components. The presence of V-notches leads to singular residual stresses ahead of the notch tip and

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Skinless V-Notched Fillet Yields of Tilapia (Oreochromis)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Recirculating Aquaculture, 2004
White hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis) produced in an experiment that determined the effects of various management practices on growth rate and feed conversion ratios were weighed, measured, and filleted at the conclusion of the growth trials. Regression analyses produced two models to predict fillet yields-one model that used the fish weight and length ...

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Size effect of V-shaped notches on the electronic transport properties of zigzag graphene nanoribbons

open access: yes, 2016
The electronic transport properties of zigzag nanoribbons (ZGNRs) with V-shaped notches on the edges have been investigated by a first-principles method. It is found that for ZGNRs with medium and large-sized V-shaped notches, an obvious threshold of the

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Use of J-integral to predict static failures in sharp V-notches and rounded U-notches

open access: yes, 2008
In the present paper, the physical meaning of JV (namely, the classic J-integral applied to either sharp V-notch) is discussed. Consider a Cartesian reference frame having the x-axis parallel to the notch bisector, each mode of JV, for a given circular ...

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.
