Memory and Resting‐State Connectivity in Acute Transient Global Amnesia: A Case–Control fMRI Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a striking model of isolated amnesia. While hippocampal lesions are well described, the network‐level mechanisms and the precise neuropsychological profile remain debated. Our objective was thus to characterize functional and neuropsychological correlates of acute TGA and their ...

Experimental verification of the averaged strain energy density criterion for brittle fracture in blunt V-notches under pure compression

open access: yes, 2022
The goal of the present study is to verify experimentally the Averaged Strain Energy Density (ASED) criterion for brittle fracture in blunt V-notches under pure compression.

Rafting of Ni‐Based Superalloys Under Multiaxial Load as Understood by Phase‐Field Simulations and Critical Experiments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Phase‐field simulations coupled with dislocation‐density‐based crystal plasticity modeling reproduce γ′ rafting behavior in single‐crystal Ni‐based superalloys under varied loading conditions. The model captures both macroscopic creep and microscopic morphology evolution, with results matching high‐temperature creep experiments.

Crack initiation at V-notch tip subjected to in-plane mixed mode loading: An application of the fictitious notch rounding concept [PDF]

open access: yesFracture and Structural Integrity, 2015
The fictitious notch rounding concept is applied for the first time to V-notches with root hole subjected to in-plane mixed mode loading. Out-of-bisector crack propagation is taken into account.

Experimental Investigation of the Influence of Notch Geometry on Impact Resistance of Al/Cu Bimetallic Sheets

open access: yesJournal of Engineering
The impact resistance of bimetallic materials is a critical aspect of engineering, particularly in the aerospace and automotive industries. Notched geometries are often encountered in real-world scenarios due to manufacturing defects or intentional ...

A unifying approach to fatigue design in presence of defects and notches subject to uniaxial loading

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2014
In the recent past, Atzori and Lazzarin proposed a diagram able to include the geometrical effects on the fatigue limit of defects, short cracks, long cracks and U-shaped notches of whatever severity.

Karl Popper and the Mechanisms of Hydrogen Embrittlement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Representation of the beginning of loss of ductility rather than embrittlement. Small concentrations of hydrogen in a diffusible form within iron are well‐established to harm the mechanical integrity of steels. There are theories that attempt to explain the pernicious role of hydrogen.

Plane elastostatic analysis of V-notched plates [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Fracture Mechanics, 1972
Solutions are given for several plane elastostatic problems of plates having a V-notch on one edge, and subjected to a variety of boundary conditions. The effect of the magnitude of the V-notch angle and specimen geometry on stress intensity factors KI and KII are obtained for unloaded notch surfaces.

Microstructure‐Controlled Crack Propagation and Fracture Resistance in MoSiBTiC Alloy Revealed by Multiscale Extended Finite Element Method Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐dimensional multiscale finite element analysis framework was established for the first‐generation MoSiBTiC alloy, and the mechanical and fracture‐related parameters of the constituent phases were calibrated through experiments and simulations. The framework provides a basis for analyzing crack propagation behavior in its complex microstructure ...
