Fatigue Crack Initiation and Growth in Nanocrystalline Ni at Multiple Length‐Scales

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Overview of miniaturized in situ SEM fatigue setup and resultant fatigue crack growth data for nanocrystalline Ni. The presented study focuses on the analysis of fatigue crack growth rate (FCGR) in focused ion beam‐notched microcantilevers prepared from nanocrystalline (NC) Ni as a model material.

Car Notches: Strategic Automaker Responses to Fuel Economy Policy [PDF]

open access: yes
Notches --- where small changes in behavior lead to large changes in a tax or subsidy --- figure prominently in many policies, but have been rarely examined by economists.

Notch stress intensity factors applied to U and V-shaped radiused notches under in-plane shear loading

open access: yes, 2011
The present work provides an application of the mode II Generalised Notch Stress Intensity Factor (NSIFs) for U-shaped and V-shaped radiused notches, varying the notch radius as well as the notch opening angle.

Influence of Test Temperature and Test Frequency on Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloy EN AW‐2618A

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The influence of test temperature and test frequency on the fatigue life of EN AW‐2618A is investigated. High‐cycle fatigue tests are performed at different test temperatures and frequencies on the 1000 h/230°C overaged state. Both test parameters reduce fatigue life due to time‐dependent damage mechanisms.

Fictitious notch rounding concept applied to V-notches with end holes under mode 3 loading

open access: yes, 2012
The present technical note is aimed to provide a closed form expression for the microstructural support factor and for the fictitious notch radius in plates weakened by V-notches with root end-holes.

Method of effective stress for fatigue: Part II - Applications to V-notches and seam welds

open access: yes, 2022
S.24-40As shown in Part I of this paper, an effective stress method is specified by selecting a corresponding kernel G (x, over(x, -)) defining the functional F. Among the numerous possibilities available only the stress averaging method by Neuber, which

Influence of Surface Finish on the Tribological Performance of AlTiBN Coatings Deposited on Forming Tools

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Aluminum and nitride coatings are used in industry because they are hard, resist wear, and protect against oxidation. Adding boron can improve friction behavior and other properties. This study tests coatings on surfaces with different finishes. Results show smoother surfaces perform better, while rough ones wear faster, although coatings can reduce ...

From Shear to Sound: Mechanics–Acoustics Mapping of TPMS Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattices are mapped across mechanical and acoustic performance, revealing that descriptors validated in compression fail under shear. First‐time comparison with trusses included. A transition from porous to resonance‐driven absorption emerges at 25% density.

A Dislocation Perspective on Strength and Toughness in Ceramics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Dislocations in ceramics enjoy a long but yet under‐appreciated history. The three research waves for dislocations in ceramics highlight the topic evolution over the last 90 years. This review focuses on the impact of dislocation on strength and toughness in ceramics.

Asymptotyczne metody obliczania współczynników intensywności naprężeń dla karbów trójkątnych w płaskich zagadnieniach teorii sprężystości

open access: yesEngineering Transactions, 1990
Praca przedstawia dwa sposoby obliczania współczynników intensywności naprężeń KI i KII dla karbów trójkątnych w płaskich zagadnieniach teorii sprężystości. Wykorzystują one rozkład przemieszczeń otrzymany za pomocą metody elementów skończonych. Pierwsza
