Investigations of arc instabilities in DC vacuum arcs
2020 29th International Symposium on Discharges and Electrical Insulation in Vacuum (ISDEIV), 2021Investigations of low currents vacuum arcs (< 30 A) have been performed on CuCr, Cu and W contact materials in order to evaluate their chopping current behavior. Results show that the arc burning between CuCr contacts is relatively stable with an average lifetime of 16 ms at 7A, in the presented test set-up.

Vacuum, 1956
DURING an investigation of the behaviour of electric arcs in vacuum, measurements have been made of arc voltages with various cathode materials, and photographs have been taken of cathode spot tracks on one particular material. Certain of these measurements may be relevant to phenomena occurring at the opening of low-current contacts in air.

The vacuum arc and vacuum interruption
Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 1989The vacuum arc has been widely studied in recent years. One of the principal reasons for this interest has been the increasing use of the vacuum arc to achieve circuit interruption in electrical distribution systems. This is an expanding application with sales predictions of 300000 units for 1987 and with many millions already in service worldwide ...
