The testing of vacuum generator circuit breakers

IET Conference Publications, 2009
Testing of generator breakers is usually in accordance with the standard IEEE Std. C37.013, to be included in the IEC framework soon.

Surge limiters for vacuum circuit breakers

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1988
Computer modeling was used to confirm the applications which require surge protection and to verify that surge limiters installed within the switchgear will provide this protection. The basic phenomena which cause vacuum-switchgear-related surges are reviewed, and the need for surge limiters is discussed.

Low Surge Vacuum Circuit Breakers

IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1985
Low surge vacuum circuit breakers were developed which used a new electrode material cobalt-silver-selenium alloy. Their chopping current level was below 1.0 A and their high frequency current interruption ability was about 24 Aus. These levels were much lower than those of conventional electrode materials and did not change after load current ...

Vacuum circuit breaker with asymmetrical actuator

IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exhibition, 2003
During the last decades vacuum replaced air, oil and almost SF/sub 6/ as switching medium in medium voltage circuit breakers. Beside the ecological and economic advantages vacuum is a proper solution for all switching applications. The range of applications last from switching of loads, such as transformers, motors to the switching of short circuit ...

New solution of a vacuum circuit breaker

XXIst International Symposium on Discharges and Electrical Insulation in Vacuum, 2004. Proceedings. ISDEIV., 2004
To be able to optimise a vacuum circuit breaker one has to pay attention to: - possible short arcing time to reduce the energy dissipated between contacts; - application of a high speed actuator especially for the highest rated voltages; - concentrate on solution of vacuum chambers and contact design generating axial magnetic field (AMF) and the lowest

Arc Motion in Vacuum Circuit Breakers

IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 1986
Arc motion due to self-magnetic fields is investigated theoretically and experimentally. Using an array of four Hall probes 90° apart around a vacuum breaker, we unambiguously determine arc rotation. It is primarily the radio component of magnetic induction that causes this motion.

Vacuum circuit breakers in cable networks

22nd International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity Distribution (CIRED 2013), 2013
The impact of switching over-voltages in a public distribution network on cable ageing and the occurrence of earth fault failure are discussed. It is concluded that 95% of the network remains unaffected by the behaviour of the VCB, and that switching over-voltages in the remaining connected Industrial sites don't propagate into the public network ...

The ins and outs of vacuum circuit breakers

Electronics and Power, 1975
It has been known for some 40 years that one of the most effective ways of interrupting an a.c. circuit is to do so by means of contacts in vacuum. Unlike all other interrupters there is no gas in the arc, only metal vapour which condenses very rapidly as the current falls to zero, giving a most predictable performance and a very fast rise of electric ...

The chaos in synthetic circuit experiment for vacuum circuit breaker

24th ISDEIV 2010, 2010
The chaos characteristic of vacuum circuit breaker (VCB) under different interruption conditions in synthetic circuit experiment is researched. Using four parameter and two parameter method, comparing the influence of the metal vapor arc model, the variations of voltage and current for different VCBs are obtained.
