Current interruption in vacuum
1994The vast majority of power switching devices spend almost all their service life in the closed position, conducting current to a load. Yet the major effort in their design and development is directed to the relatively infrequent occasions when, on command, they interrupt this current, or to the even rarer occasions, when they operate in anger to clear ...

Review of vacuum interrupter development carried out in London by Vacuum Interrupters Limited
29th Annual Weekend Meeting History of Electrical Engineering, 2001Vacuum Interrupters Limited was founded in 1968. This was a joint venture originally between GEC which inherited the work carried out by English Electric and AEI, together with Reyrolle- Parsons, and later including Hawker-Sidderly (Brush). This paper concentrates briefly on some of the innovative technology developed during the period from 1968-92 ...

Interruption ability of vacuum interrupters subjected to axial magnetic fields
Proceedings of the Institution of Electrical Engineers, 1972Two vacuum interrupters equipped with 7 cm-diameter electrodes have been power tested with and without the presence of an axial magnetic field during arcing. The field strength was 2×10−5 teslaper arcing ampere, with a negligible field at a current zero.

Post arc current of vacuum interrupter after large current interruption
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1988Postarc current characteristics of a vacuum interrupter have been examined under a condition of high-current interruption. A measurement technique was developed in which a shunt for measuring postarc current was set in a synthetic test circuit voltage source. Postarc current was measured after a 20-57 kA current interruption.

Fiber-controlled vacuum interrupter module used for fault current interruption
24th ISDEIV 2010, 2010A novel fiber-controlled vacuum interrupter module (FCVIM) is proposed in this paper, which can be used for controlled interruption of short circuit currents by means of point-on-wave control. In the FCVIM, the permanent magnetic actuator operates at high potential terminal with the vacuum interrupter, the operation commands come from low potential ...

Resistance increase of vacuum interrupters due to high-current interruptions
IEEE Transactions on Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation, 2014The resistance of vacuum interrupters can be calculated from the geometry and resistivity of current carrying parts and the additional resistance of the contact points between movable and fixed contacts. Since vacuum interrupter contacts are designed as flat contacts facing each other, the resistance is mainly determined by contact force, hardness and ...

Electrical breakdown in vacuum interrupters
IEEE Transactions on Electrical Insulation, 1993Aspects of HV breakdown associated with vacuum interrupters are discussed, based on the author's personal experience. In particular, cold cathode arc stability, electrical contact phenomena, and particle effects are considered. >

Contact Materials for Vacuum Interrupters
IEEE Transactions on Parts, Hybrids, and Packaging, 1974A comprehensive review of the large number of contact materials that have been proposed for vacuum interrupter applications is presented. These contact materials are classified into four major groupings: 1) pure metals, 2) alloys, 3) mixtures of refractory materials and good conductors, and 4) mixtures of semirefractory materials and good conductors ...

Interruption property of vacuum interrupter with four different contact materials
2017 4th International Conference on Electric Power Equipment - Switching Technology (ICEPE-ST), 2017Interruption property of vacuum interrupter with four different contact materials were researched by experimental method. The diameter of Wan-type contact and Spiral-type CuCr25 contact was 55mm. The diameter of Spiral-type CuCr35 and CuCr30 was 58mm.
