Computer simulation of platelet activation in a pulsatile ventricular assist device, through finite elements and a simplified geometry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Ventricular assist devices are a technological solution for patients who suffer from cardiac insufficiency and await a transplant. In this work, a new design of an implantable pulsatile blood pump is analyzed in terms of blood damage, by means of finite ...

Effects of the Surface Wettability and Particle Size Distribution of Petroleum Coke on the Stability of Petroleum Coke–Water Slurry

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study explores the effects of surface wettability and particle size distribution on the stability of petroleum coke–water slurry (PCWS). Significant differences in stability were observed among slurries prepared from four types of petroleum coke. Notably, reduced surface wettability was found to enhance slurry stability.

The impact of metal cup size on neonatal and maternal morbidity in vacuum‐assisted deliveries

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To evaluate whether metal cup size influences maternal and neonatal morbidity in vacuum‐assisted deliveries (VAD). Materials and Methods Retrospective cohort at a single tertiary center (2011–2022) comparing 60‐mm versus 50‐mm Malmström cups. A 1:1 matched cohort analysis balanced maternal and obstetric variables.

RBM15 Mediated m6A Modification of SRSF1 Inhibits Cuproptosis in Non‐Small Cell Lung Cancer by Mediating ATP7B Alternative Splicing

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Inhibition of cuproptosis contributes to the development of non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The expression of RNA‐binding motif protein 15 (RBM15) is upregulated in NSCLC. Nonetheless, its relationship with cuproptosis remains unclear. This study aimed to explore the role of RBM15 in regulating cuproptosis in NSCLC. A549 cells were treated

Kaempferitrin's Dual Assault: Inducing Apoptosis and Ferroptosis in Diffuse Large B‐Cell Lymphoma via NF‐κB Inactivation

open access: yesThe Kaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common non‐Hodgkin lymphoma and is an aggressive and highly heterogeneous tumor. Kaempferitrin (KPF) is a natural flavonoid glycoside that exerts a protective role in multiple human tumors. However, the impact of KPF on DLBCL remains unclear.

Daily temperature variation explains zooplankton community differences in freshwater mesocosms recovering from a natural drought

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, EarlyView.
Abstract Drought events are typically studied as a single stressor. However, multiple environmental variables are altered under drought conditions, including water level and daily temperature variation. Here, we experimentally manipulated both variables in 16 outdoor mesocosms to disentangle how they impact freshwater zooplankton communities.
