Incidence and risk of vaginal candidiasis associated with sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 inhibitors in real‐world practice for women with type 2 diabetes

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, 2019
Aims/Introduction The prevalence and risk of vaginal candidiasis before and after initiating sodium–glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors, although some clinical trials have been carried out, have not been adequately shown in real‐world practice. We

Gardnerella vaginalis promotes group B Streptococcus vaginal colonization, enabling ascending uteroplacental infection in pregnant mice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
BACKGROUND: Group B Streptococcus is a common vaginal bacterium and the leading cause of invasive fetoplacental infections. Group B Streptococcus in the vagina can invade through the cervix to cause ascending uteroplacental infections or can be ...

Organ‐Specific Human Microbiomes and Dysbiosis: Mechanistic Links to Disease and Emerging Therapeutic Strategies

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, EarlyView.
Schematic overview of the human microbiome and major microbiota‐derived metabolites across body sites, highlighting the gut–brain, gut–heart, and gut–kidney axes in host physiology and disease. ABSTRACT Background The human microbiome is a dynamic and diverse community of microorganisms that affects susceptibility to illness and promotes wellness ...

Bacterial vaginosis, vaginal Candida colonization and antifungal susceptibility patterns in pregnant women of eastern Ethiopia: a prospective study

open access: yesScientific Reports
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) and vaginal candidiasis are prominent causes of vaginal infections, leading to discomfort and negative pregnancy outcomes. Despite their significance, there is limited data on the prevalence, progression, and contributing factors

Commensal bacteria modulate innate immune responses of vaginal epithelial cell multilayer cultures. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
The human vaginal microbiome plays a critical but poorly defined role in reproductive health. Vaginal microbiome alterations are associated with increased susceptibility to sexually-transmitted infections (STI) possibly due to related changes in innate ...

A vaginal drain of a pelvic abscess due to colonic diverticulitis [PDF]

open access: yesWorld Journal of Clinical Cases, 2013
Although well recognized for tubo-ovarian abscesses, we report, in our best knowledge, the first case of a vaginal drain of a pelvic abscess due to colonic diverticulitis. A 78-year-old patient presented with abdominal and pelvic pain, fever (39.3 °C) and an elevated white blood cell count (18500/mL).

Nutritional and environmental determinants of maturation and disruption of the early life gut microbiome: A narrative review

open access: yesJournal of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition, EarlyView.
Abstract The first 1000 days of life represent a critical window for gut microbiome assembly, with lifelong implications for child growth, immune development, and disease risk. This review synthesizes evidence on maternal, perinatal, and especially nutritional factors that influence early‐life intestinal colonization and highlights the consequences of ...

Distinct Nasal Microbiome Profiles and Prediction Model for Allergic Rhinitis, Nonallergic Rhinitis, and Healthy Children

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
The alpha and beta diversity of the nasal microbiome differed among children with allergic rhinitis (AR), nonallergic rhinitis (NAR), and healthy controls (HCs). Compared to HC, AR had more Escherichia‐Shigella, Negativicoccus, and Campylobacter, while NAR had more Dolosigranulum and fewer Enterobacteriaceae.
