Screening and characterization of vaginal fluid donations for vaginal microbiota transplantation
AbstractBacterial vaginosis (BV), the overgrowth of diverse anaerobic bacteria in the vagina, is the most common cause of vaginal symptoms worldwide. BV frequently recurs after antibiotic therapy, and the best probiotic treatments only result in transient changes from BV-associated states to “optimal” communities dominated by a single species of ...

Abstract Objectives Dysbiosis due to early‐life antibiotics may contribute to the development of functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs). This follow‐up study of a birth cohort primarily investigates the association between antibiotic treatment in the first week of life and the presence of FGIDs at 9–12 years.

Group B Streptococcus and the Vaginal Microbiota [PDF]
Streptococcus agalactiae (group B Streptococcus [GBS]) is an important neonatal pathogen and emerging cause of disease in adults. The major risk factor for neonatal disease is maternal vaginal colonization. However, little is known about the relationship between GBS and vaginal microbiota.Vaginal lavage samples from nonpregnant women were tested for ...

Optimizing a PCR protocol for cpn60-based microbiome profiling of samples variously contaminated with host genomic DNA. [PDF]
The current recommended protocol for chaperonin-60 (cpn60) universal target based microbiome profiling includes universal PCR of microbiome samples across an annealing temperature gradient to maximize the diversity of sequences amplified.

ABSTRACT The growing recognition of the microbiome's role in human health has propelled the emergence of microbiota medicine—a new discipline integrating microbiology, multi‐omics, and clinical science. Advances in sequencing, data integration, and interventions such as fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) have transitioned the field from ...

The alpha and beta diversity of the nasal microbiome differed among children with allergic rhinitis (AR), nonallergic rhinitis (NAR), and healthy controls (HCs). Compared to HC, AR had more Escherichia‐Shigella, Negativicoccus, and Campylobacter, while NAR had more Dolosigranulum and fewer Enterobacteriaceae.

To cope with highly stochastic and/or heterogeneous environmental conditions, animals must balance energy resource allocation across physiological processes. The digestive tract and brain exhibit structural variations under strong developmental and selective pressures that vary across environmental gradients both between and within species.
