Microbial and Metabolic Correlates of Endometrial Dysfunction in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Translational Study

open access: yesBJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics &Gynaecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) exhibit a substantially increased risk of miscarriage, yet the underlying mechanisms remain inadequately understood. This study aimed to investigate whether specific gut microbial dysbiosis and metabolic disturbance are associated with and may potentially contribute to endometrial ...

Recovery of Vaginal Microbiota after Standard Treatment for Bacterial Vaginosis Infection: An Observational Study

open access: yesMicroorganisms, 2020
Vaginal microbiota dysbiosis and bacterial vaginosis (BV) affect negatively women’s health. Understanding vaginal microbiota fluctuations in BV during and after antibiotic treatment would facilitate accurate decision-making on the treatment regimen ...

Effects of Live and Heat‐Treated Bifidobacterium longum CECT 7347 in Adults With Allergic Rhinitis: A Randomised, Double‐Blind, Placebo‐Controlled Trial

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
This randomized, double‐blind, placebo‐controlled trial evaluated the effects of live probiotic and HT postbiotic B. longum CECT 7347 in adults with moderate–severe allergic rhinitis. Postbiotic supplementation for 8 weeks significantly reduced CSMS and dSS, exceeding the established CSMS MCID with a 33% greater improvement, when compared to placebo ...

Effects of the sampling time on the vaginal microbiota in healthy pregnant women: a prospective observational studyAJOG Global Reports at a Glance

open access: yesAJOG Global Reports
Background: Studies using 16S rRNA gene sequencing have extensively examined the vaginal microbiota changes of pregnant women. However, no study has examined these changes considering the time of day at which vaginal fluid samples were collected from ...

Longitudinal Follow‐Up of Gut and Salivary Microbiota in Children With Food Protein‐Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
This study aimed to compare both the gut and salivary microbiota over time between allergic and tolerant patients and matched controls. Allergic patients with food protein‐induced enterocolitis syndrome exhibited lower gut and salivary alpha‐diversities, several genus‐level differences, and higher acetate levels than controls.

IL-33 induced by dysbiosis in vaginal microbiota contributes to impaired antiviral immunity against herpes simples virus infection to vaginal mucosa

open access: yes, 2018
Commensal microbiota are well known to play an important role in antiviral immunity by providing immune inductive signals; however, the consequence of dysbiosis on antiviral immunity remains unclear.

Establishment of the early gut microbiota in vaginally delivered infants: the influence of maternal gut microbiota outweighs vaginal microbiota

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
ABSTRACT Gut microbiota is one of the largest microbial communities within the human body, yet its origins and early developmental processes remain not fully understood. This study collected samples from 26 mother-infant pairs from the third trimester to 14 days postpartum, using 16S rDNA sequencing ...

Incidence and Early‐Life Risk Factors for Food Allergy in a Spanish Birth Cohort

open access: yesActa Paediatrica, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim The prevalence of food allergy has increased in recent decades. We aimed to determine the cumulative incidence of food allergy in early childhood and to identify associated risk factors. Methods We conducted a prospective birth cohort study including 1006 newborns recruited over one year at a single hospital in Spain and followed until 4 ...

The Nasopharyngeal, Ruminal, and Vaginal Microbiota and the Core Taxa Shared across These Microbiomes in Virgin Yearling Heifers Exposed to Divergent In Utero Nutrition during Their First Trimester of Gestation and in Pregnant Beef Heifers in Response to Mineral Supplementation

open access: yes, 2021
In the present study, we evaluated whether the nasopharyngeal, ruminal, and vaginal microbiota would diverge (1) in virgin yearling beef heifers (9 months old) due to the maternal restricted gain during the first trimester of gestation; and (2) in ...
