Oxygen reduction catalytic characteristics of vanadium carbide and nitrogen doped vanadium carbide

Journal of Power Sources, 2015
Abstract To develop low-cost and high-performance non-precious metal-based oxygen reduction catalysts, we investigate the structure and catalytic performance of industrialized vanadium carbide (VC) and nitrogen doped vanadium carbide (V(C, N)). The structure of VC and V(C, N) were examined by XRD, SEM and XPS tests.

Mechanical properties of vanadium carbide and a ternary vanadium tungsten carbide [PDF]

open access: yesSolid State Communications, 2010
Ab initio total energy calculations are performed on non-stoichiometric vanadium carbide with supercells representing vacancy concentrations of VC0.875 and VC0.75. The VC0.875 supercell retains a cubic symmetry whilst in the case of the VC0.75 supercell C vacancies located in close proximity have the lowest energy configuration and the cubic lattice ...

The Atomic Configuration of Graphene/Vanadium Carbide Interfaces in Vanadium Carbide-Encapsulating Carbon Nanocapsules

Journal of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, 2014
Carbon nanocapsules (CNCs) encapsulating vanadium carbide (VC) nanocrystals with a NaCI structure were synthesized by a gas-evaporation method using arc-discharge heating. The CNCs were observed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The VC nanocrystals within the nanospaces of CNCs were truncated by low-index facets and were coated with ...

Carbide eutectic in vanadium steels

Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 1979
1. Eutectic equilibrium is observed in vanadium steels with a low carbon and vanadium content: L⇌γ+VC. Due to strong dendritic segregation of vanadium the eutectic crystallization (L→γ+VC) can occur with a vanadium content∼0.1%. 2. During eutectic solidification of rapidly cooled pure vanadium steels a more or less fine vanadium carbide ...

Galvanomagnetic properties of vanadium carbide

Physical Review B, 1975
Measurements of the magnetoresistance of vanadium carbide have been made as a function of carbon concentration and temperature. For well-ordered samples the results for ${\ensuremath{\rho}}_{1111}$, ${\ensuremath{\rho}}_{1122}$, and ${\ensuremath{\rho}}_{1212}$ are analyzed along with previously taken data for the Hall effect and electrical resistivity.
