Electronic Structure of Vanadium Carbide
Physical Review B, 1973The electronic structure of stoichiometric vanadium carbide has been computed using the augmented-plane-wave (APW) method and the energy bands for nonstoichiometric phases have been determined with the APW---virtual-crystal approximation. The energy bands exhibit a very strong dependence on the relative sizes of the assumed APW-sphere radii for ...

Compton profile of vanadium carbide
Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 1996Abstract The isotropic Compton profile of vanadium carbide has been measured using 59.54 keV gamma radiation. To compare the experimental result with theory the Compton profile has been calculated within the frame work of the renormalized free atom model considering different V 3 d C 2 p shell electronic configurations.

Precipitation of carbides in deformed vanadium
Metallurgical transactions, 1974Strain aging measurements on alloys of vanadium with 0.3 at. pct carbon have been carried out over the temperature range 200°C to 500°C. The multiplicity of hardening stages char-acteristic of quench aging in this alloy is not altered by deformation. This behavior is in-terpreted as evidence that carbides nucleate in such profusion through the bulk of ...

Fluxoid pinning by vanadium carbide precipitates in superconducting vanadium
Journal of Low Temperature Physics, 1978Abstract : The purpose of this investigation is to study fluxoid pinning in a Type II superconductor. Vanadium was chosen as the superconductor to study because it is obtainable in high purity and its microstructure can be readily controlled. The pinning centers are formed by introducing carbon into the vanadium matrix forming vanadium carbide ...

Electrochemical capacitance of intermetallic vanadium carbide
Intermetallics, 2020Abstract The polycrystalline intermetallic vanadium carbide (V8C7) is successfully synthesized and investigated as an electrode material for electrochemical capacitors. The V8C7 electrode has a large specific capacitance of 161.7 F g−1 in 1.0 mol L−1 Na2SO4 at a specific current density of 1 A g−1 and remains 92.8% of this value after 10,000 cycles ...

Nanostructure and atomic ordering in vanadium carbide
Journal of Experimental and Theoretical Physics Letters, 1999Nanostructured nonstoichiometric vanadium carbide VC0.87 was obtained in powdered form using the ordering effect. The composition, structure, and properties of the carbide were studied by chemical and thermogravimetric analysis, gas chromatography, x-ray diffraction, optical and electronic microscopy, electron-positron annihilation, magnetic ...

Pilot plant manufacture of vanadium carbide
Soviet Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics, 1968A manometric study was carried out of the reduction of vanadium oxide with carbon, and it was found that the pressure vs time curve exhibits three discontinuities, at temperatures of 1200°C (formation of the monoxide VO), 1400°C (formation of VCX-VO solid solutions), and 1700°C (formation of the carbide VCX).

Diffusion of carbon in vanadium and titanium carbides
Soviet Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics, 19671. The diffusion mobility of carbon in vanadium carbide VC0.75 and titanium carbide TiC0.4 has been studied. 2. The temperature dependence of the diffusion coefficients of carbon have been obtained: for VC0.75 (1770–2170°K) {ie309-01}; for TiC0.4 (2050–2380°K) (ie309-02).

Long-period order in vanadium carbide
Philosophical Magazine, 1974Abstract Periodic arrangements of anti-phase boundaries (APBs) have been detected by electron diffraction and microscopy in long-range ordered crystals of vanadium carbide near to the composition V 6 C 5, The APBs are non-conservative and are believed to accommodate excess vacancies or carbon atoms in response to deviations in crystal composition from ...

Study of the oxidation kinetics of vanadium carbide
Oxidation of Metals, 1975The oxidation of an oxycarbide of vanadium, VO0.6C0.7, and of a vanadium carbide, VC0.98, was studied athermally up to temperatures of 800° C and isothermally between 400 and 580° C at oxygen pressures ranging from 10−2 to 1 atm. The oxycarbide followed the parabolic rate law below 450° C with V2O5 forming as the only reaction product.
